Volume 4 Chapter 26 Landing and Beginning the Investigation

After being attacked by a kraken in the middle of the open sea, the journey went smoothly.
The ship Neuvelt stopped at 2 inhabited islands and finally reached the harbor town Chupa at the eastern edge of the Quechua continent.
The harbor's shape was like Sartzstadt, full of rocky reefs, but several large, well-made piers were ready to dock ships.
They looked pretty new, so maybe they were built recently for this fleet.
"This harbor town is busier than I thought."
Looking down at the town from the ship's edge, I thought that to myself.
The culture here was totally different from Sartzstadt's.
There were many strange patterns everywhere, and people with slightly brown skin were watching our ship.
Most were humans, but there were elves, dwarves, and even harpies with wings instead of arms.
"...Those patterns──are they from the Abnella faith?"
"Yeah, you're right. The pillars near the harbor entrance have pictures that honor Abnella. Man, you never noticed this even after visiting twice?"
Miloslav muttered, catching my whisper.
But since talking about Abnella is almost forbidden in the eastern continent, it's no wonder I didn't know much about it.
We follow the crew down to the dock.
Just as I heard before, the people of the town are in a welcoming mood.
They look nothing like the followers of Abnella we imagined; they are bright and cheerful.
'Hey, hey! It's been a while, my friend Karman! Did you bring something interesting this time?'
"Of course, Clepa! I've brought the spices you wanted that aren't found in the Quechua Empire! I think you'll be pleased with what's inside!"
Captain Karman and a small old man named Clepa are hugging each other to celebrate their reunion.
It's friendly of them, especially since they just started understanding each other with the <Magic Stone of Cashunat>, but as a captain and a merchant, he should be able to do this much.
Clepa is an old man with brown skin and a bald head, probably around 60 years old.
Since he is talking to the captain, we can consider him a representative of the town.
"Oh, by the way, I want to introduce someone. This is Mr. Ryuuji, the enchanter, and this is Mr. Miloslaf, the bodyguard."
"Ah, nice to meet you, Mr. Clepa."
"Yeah, nice to meet you too."
Both Miloslaf and I shake hands with Clepa, just like the captain did, with a friendly greeting.
The reason I'm introduced as an enchanter and not a Count is that I thought it would be better for the captain to be seen as the one with the highest authority when dealing with the Quechua.
If they start asking me questions during negotiations, it would be a problem.
'Nice to meet you! So, what exactly is an enchanter?'
"Oh, it seems there are no enchanters here. Well, it's a good opportunity, so I'll show you my powers later!"
I had a small thought that Enchant magic might not even exist, so I wasn't really surprised.
If that's true, it works in my favor for negotiation, and it gives me a good reason to show off.
"Clepa, I'm a follower of Abnella. Can you tell me where the Church is in this town? I want to go pray."
Right away, Miloslaf shows he's a follower of Abnella.
The fang-shaped necklace he pulled out was something I'd seen before.
It's a sign of faith in Abnella and has stayed the same since it came from the Quechua continent.
'Oh! You follow Abnella too? Wonderful, wonderful! Let's talk a lot about our faith later!'
The old man smiled warmly, and Miloslaf smiled back without thinking.
There was no dark, creepy vibe like I expected from a cult that plays with lives.
So, why did the Abnella followers in the Romanov Empire become twisted like that?
I need to find out, so I have to look into many things.
