Rai received a sudden instruction for time off from Special Agent Priest Curtis.
He couldn't stay any longer at the Holy Church headquarters, so he reluctantly changed into his casual clothes and left.
With a vague, unsettled feeling he can't quite shake, he heads to "Donkey's Mane Inn."
"Somehow, I feel like it's been forever since I came back."
In reality, he had been on a long expedition mission and couldn't return to Benetonash for quite some time.
Feeling bad that the Kawette couple, who run the place, were kind enough to give him a roof over his head, he buys a small souvenir on his way back.
The "Donkey's Mane Inn" was located about halfway along the Fourth Avenue of Benetonash, a city with several main streets branching out from the Holy Church headquarters.
Although it has a plain and cozy look so it won't ruin the city's tourist image, the warmth of the Kawette family who run it keeps the place lively with people coming and going.
Spotting the sign that matches its name, Rai's steps become a little lighter.
──Though Rai himself hasn't noticed it.
"Oh, excuse me..."
Having been away for so long, Rai opens the door looking a bit apologetic.
It was after the midday rush, so there seemed to be fewer customers inside.
Rai guesses around this time they're probably in the back having their staff meal.
The bell on the door jingles with a light clank-clank to announce his arrival, and lively footsteps come from the back of the store.
"Welcome── Rai!"
A girl who appears from the back of the store wearing a smile lights up even more at the sight of Rai.
She weaves through the seats with a light step and takes Rai's hand, greeting him with a beaming smile.
"Welcome back!"
Chestnut-colored braids, freckles, and a radiant, energetic smile like the summer sun──this girl's name is Saria Kawette.
She is the only daughter of the Kawette couple from "Donkey's Mane Inn" and is a poster girl.
And one of the few──no, the only one who took it to Rai.
──No, let's stop talking any more. It's pointless for me to say more.
In any case, Saria was irreplaceable to Rai.
Well, it seems that Rai himself still hasn't realized his feelings yet.
