Volume 4 Chapter 34 ACT.125 Hope (II)

 "Hope, you say?"

 Rai unconsciously repeats Dominic's words.

It wasn't just a word that needed careful thought; it was something he *couldn't understand* at all.

 "Their existence is pure disaster."

The sword, gripped tightly, makes a sharp sound.

Since the Aldra Rebellion, how much chaos have Reincarnators caused?

 And he called that hope.

 "That's ridiculous."

With disdain, Rai spits out the words.

In response, Dominic looks at Rai with a mix of pity.

"It's just that the one who caused trouble happened to be a bad Reincarnator."

 "What do you mean?"

"There are bad people among us non-Reincarnators too. The ratio might not be so different."

Rai feels anger, thinking that's just a clever excuse.

The scale of harm caused by humans and Reincarnators is not the same.

Other factors exist, but it's strange to compare the two equally.

"Besides, the Holy Church purges them before they cause big trouble, based on the Saint's divine guidance. Is that right?"

 "It's right."

Dominic looks taken aback by Rai's quick answer.

He lets out a dramatic sigh, like an adult facing a stubborn child.

"Do we punish a street kid for stealing an apple just because he might?"

In response to that question, Rai silently shakes his head.

The premise is different, after all.

"If there's a man hiding a knife on the street, he must be caught."

It's not about whether he has committed a crime or not.

The important thing is whether he is dangerous.

Reincarnators are dangerous; cheats are dangerous.

──That's why they must be removed.

"Regardless of a Reincarnator's will, it's *safest* to eliminate all Reincarnators."

Dominic makes a face like he's bitten into a sour bug at Rai's answer.

 And Rai senses that expression.

"──The true feelings aren't about that."

 Dominic's true feelings.

What he just said was a *pretense* to betray the Holy Church.

 A lie that sounds *convincing*.

His real reason is something else.

"Answer me, what is your true reason for siding with the Reincarnator?"

Taking a deep breath and steadying himself, Rai readied his sword again.

Noticing he failed to defeat Dominic with logic, he adjusted his stance and waited for the answer.

 "It's for my son."
