Volume 2 Chapter 20 Thrashed by a Oni Girl, Ulgar
Guildmaster Act was busy working in his office.
It was a certain afternoon.
"Hey there, Guildmaster! How've you been?"
The one who entered the room was the strikingly handsome Ulgar, with his long silver hair flowing behind him.
He was one of the members of the Lawrence Hero Party.
"What brings you HERE? You should be in the Demon King's country right now, SHOULDN'T you?"
Just recently, Lawrence and the others had destroyed the northern wall at the border with the Demon King's realm.
They were supposed to be advancing into Demon King territory.
"Heh... I FIGURED you'd start missing me soon enough, Guildmaster!"
"Ulgar!"
Another figure entered the room: a charming young girl.
She was the human form of the Demon Dragon, Vivre.
"This is BAD, Guildmaster! You can't just SLACK OFF here!"
"What? Are you SLACKING OFF?"
"N-no! That's NOT it!"
Act let out a weary sigh.
"Well, since you've come all this way, I might as well serve you some TEA. Have a seat, both of you."
"Thanks!" "Heh... I'll have MILK TEA, please."
After a little while...
"Are you CURIOUS about how far the Demon King raid has progressed, Guildmaster?"
Ulgar elegantly crossed his legs and sipped his tea.
"Not REALLY."
"Oh REALLY? You're CURIOUS, aren't you? How about that!"
"Mr. Ulgar, you can't wait to SHOW OFF, can you?"
Setting down his cup, Ulgar pulled a map from his pocket.
"This is the complete MAP of the Demon King's territory that I made based on what I heard from Vivre."
The map depicted a shape resembling a large 'X'.
To be precise, it seemed like a square in the center surrounded by four triangles.
"The Demon King resides in the central SQUARE. However, to enter here, we'll have to take down the FORTS located in the EAST, WEST, NORTH, and SOUTH first."
"Oh, so we CAN'T just rush straight to the CENTER?"
Vivre, who had been an aide to one of the Four Heavenly Kings in the former Demon King's army, nodded and replied.
"A DIMENSIONAL BARRIER spell, powered by the souls of the Four Heavenly Kings, protects the center."
A dimensional barrier guarding the Demon King.
It seems that the area inside the barrier has become an entirely different dimension, or, to put it simply, a parallel world.
It's impossible to invade unless they destroy the barrier and bring the Demon King back to the world where Act and the others reside.
"So, the Four Heavenly Kings are stationed one in each of the fortresses to the NORTH, EAST, SOUTH, and WEST."
Having defeated the Four Heavenly King of the northern wall, that leaves us with three more to go.
"Right now, we're preparing to take down the Four Heavenly King of the EASTERN WALL. Lawrence's plan is to attack the fortresses in order: EAST, SOUTH, and then WEST."
"I see, so we'll go around in a clockwise direction and finally attack the center."
"Exactly. For now, we're in the middle of freeing the people trapped at the northern wall and driving demons out of the northern territories, while establishing a base at the northern wall. Got it, Guildmaster?"
"Yeah. Thanks for the INFORMATION, I guess."
Vivre tilted his head in confusion.
"Mr. Ulgar, despite SLACKING OFF so boldly, why do you act so HIGH AND MIGHTY?"
"W-Who said I was SLACKING OFF! It's ALL GOOD! I managed to defeat the NORTHERN Four Heavenly King, after all! If things keep going this way, my SPEAR will skewer the rest of the Heavenly Kings too. Wahahaha!"
With his victory over the Four Heavenly King, Ulgar had completely gone to his head.
"This guy gets carried away so EASILY... Act, you NEED to say something to him!"
But Act sipped his tea with an air of indifference.
"You lot are NO LONGER under my care. I have NO obligation to meddle in your affairs."
"W-Well... that's TRUE, I guess..."
Act glanced at the clock and spoke.
"It's about time I take my leave."
"Come on, since I went out of my way to VISIT, can't you stay and chat a little LONGER? Huh?"
He stood up.
"As much as I'd LIKE to, I have my own WORK to do. Training the NEXT GENERATION, you see."
"Oh? The NEXT GENERATION? What kind of KIDS are there?"
"That's NONE of your business. But... let's just say, Ulgar, that I've got a TALENT in my possession that will easily surpass you."
Ulgar frowned, his expression darkening.
"Are you telling me there's someone MORE AMAZING than me, the HERO of this party?"
"Yeah. But honestly, it's NOT something you NEED to worry about."
"No way, it DEFINITELY matters!"
Ulgar stood up.
"Guildmaster, could you take me to that kid's place for a bit?"
"What do you PLAN to do with her?"
"As her SENIOR, I was thinking of SPARRING with her a little."
"Ugh──SERIOUSLY. This person's throwing a tantrum because the Guildmaster said he's better."
Vivre says in exasperation.
"Fine. Follow me."

### Training Grounds
They arrived at the guild-owned training ground...
"G-Guildmaster... THIS KID?"
In the center of the grounds stood what could only be described as a young girl.
"Hmph... FORGET it."
Ulgar snatches his Silver Hair spear back.
"My SPEAR exists to protect the WEAK. It goes against my CODE to point it at such a young child."
"STUPID! I'm NOT a kid! I'm KANAHO!"
"I see, Kanaho. You're beautiful. You'll grow up to be a stunning woman. I can't bear to scar such a face."
"Cut the CRAP and FIGHT me! I won't STAND for being treated like a child!"
Kanaho bristles with anger.
But Ulgar seems to have no intention of fighting.
"Ulgar. How about you play with her a bit?"
"Ugh, fine, even though I'm NOT FREE... but it's a REQUEST from the Guildmaster. I'll humor her."
Vivre speaks in amazement, tilting her head and muttering, "Saying that while you're slacking off..."
"Come on, KID. Let's see what you've GOT."
"STUPID! That's it, I'll make you CRY!"
"Haha. Quite the feisty little one. You could make a fine warrior."
Kanaho glances at Act.
