Volume 3 Chapter 13-2 The Changing Delinquents

Volume 3 Chapter 13-2 The Changing Delinquents

"Hurry up and get to the site!"

 "Huh...?"

Act doesn't say anything more and writes something on a clipboard.

"Um... Guildmaster? Aren't you mad? You asked why I was late."

 "Did something happen?"

"W-Why do you know that...? Oh, I get it. You saw it with your eyes, Mr. Act."

Act has the ability to see the past of what he looks at.

He can tell why Trish was late just by looking into her eyes.

"I wouldn't waste my precious magic eyes on something so trivial."

 "Then why?"

"You, being serious, wouldn't be late for no reason."

 ...Trish's eyes start to glisten.

This Guildmaster trusted her.

"I'm sorry... I was helping a grandma who lost her wallet."

 "I see."

Act puts the clipboard under his arm.

 He gently pats Trish's head.

 "You did a good thing."

With a soft ruffle, he strokes her head.

Tears start to well up in her eyes.

...For someone who had never been praised like this, it felt so wonderful.

"Those with power have a duty to use it correctly. You fulfilled that duty. I have no intention of scolding you."

 "...Yeah."

"Don't cry over this. Get back to work."

 "Okay!"

Trish feels deep gratitude and... affection for the Guildmaster.

"Thank you, Guildmaster! I LOVE YOU!"

She kisses his cheek and then runs off.

"Good grief, what are you thanking me for?"

 Act sighs in disbelief.

Meanwhile, Trish arrives at the site.

 "Sorry, everyone!"

 "You're late, Trish!"

The delinquents, led by Donovan, say this as they look at her.

The delinquents' eyes are not as rough as before.

They all work with lively eyes, sweating as they do construction work.

 "Did you oversleep?"

"No way! I was helping people!"

 "Helping people, huh... You've changed."

Trish talks with Donovan while doing heavy work.

"You were looking for that lost child's mom the other day, too."

 "What!? You... were watching us!?"

"You had a face that looked happy to be thanked by the child!"

Ugh...!

 Donovan's face turns red.

"But you know... even delinquents can change."

Donovan says thoughtfully, putting down a heavy load.

The delinquents are working hard and seriously.

"Not long ago, we were all fighting, bullying the weak, and stealing..."

 "Yeah. Everyone had dead eyes."

 But look at us now.

 The delinquents say happily.

"After we finish this work, let's go take a bath!"

 "Sounds good!"

"I found a great restaurant the other day!"

"Oh, let's go after we're done!"

Everyone is looking forward, thinking about the future.

"We've changed this much thanks to Act."

 "Yeah... that person is amazing."

Act gave the young people a future.

They tried not to tarnish his noble face, and before they knew it, they had become real humans.

It all started when they met a man named Act Age.

They were able to change their own fate.

 "But... I'm really worried lately."

 Donovan mutters quietly.

"Soon... Mr. Act's new Guild hall will be finished."

Donovan looks up at the building.

 It was about 90% complete.

Just the interior work is left; the end is near.

"After this job is done... what will happen to us?"

Act hired the delinquents to build this Guild hall.

Once the building is finished, they might be fired.

"What are you talking about? Mr. Act, that meddlesome guy, wouldn't just throw us away!"

Right, what kind of Guildmaster takes care of their employees' families?

It was Act who helped Trish's family of orphans find a place in the orphanage.

 "...Yeah."

"HEY YOU GUYS, WHAT ARE YOU SLACKING OFF FOR?"

Act glares at them from a distance.

 "Sorry! We'll be right back!"

Donovan and Trish get back to work.

Trish thought, "This job will end soon, but I wish I could stay by his side much longer."
