Volume 23 Chapter 10 Rescue Preparation

As Al approached the wagon, Cole and Rachel just watched silently. Cole's mouth was oddly drooling.

Even though his mouth was sealed with a gag, the situation looked a little strange.

Maybe the gag was too loose, Al stared at Cole's face, noticing his jaw moving slightly. Could he be trying to bite through the gag? No, that's probably impossible.

Maybe he's biting the gag made with 'Create Armor' to test its durability.

Seeing him so fixated and movIng his jaw made Al feel uneasy about getting closer, so he stopped watching Cole.

Looking at the wagon, there were 2 magic tools attached outside, likely for illuminating the front. Inside, 3 rows of chairs were arranged for 2 people to sit comfortably.

The ceiling inside had magic tools, one for light and another with detect-like functions called Magic Tools.

Besides the boxes that probably held clothes, there was a fancy decorated box with 15 items that reacted to 'Detect Magic'.

The fancy box was locked, but it didn't seem to have any traps or alarms.

 'Open Lock'

The lock clicked open. Al's eyes lit up a little as he opened the box. Inside, there were many parchment scrolls and a spellbook.

 "Mmm──! Mmm──!!"

From outside, they heard muffled shouts of a magician named Cole, who was being silenced by his gag. When peeking out the wagon window, they saw Reginald's men stopping him from rushing forward.

Maybe he was trying to hide something important. Al opened one of the parchment scrolls.

 'Thoughts on spell options...────'

These are probably research papers. Remember, Cole said he was a researcher at the Marquis Prentis house magic lab.

Since even the 'Retention' spell was cast to keep it clean, they seemed to value it very highly.

Looking over these materials might give us insight into the Marquis Prentis family's spell options and their approach to other spells. Let's investigate further later on.

This was one of the magic reactions. Fourteen more to go. Al then pulled out his spellbook and checked the title.

 'Light'

 'Light'

 'Light'

 'Flash'

 'Flash'

 'Magic Missile'

 'Magic Missile'

 'Quick Magic Missile'

 'Quick Magic Missile'

 'Long-Range Magic Missile' new!

 'Long-Range Magic Missile' new!

 'Multiple Magic Missile' new!

 'Force Wall' new!

 'Quick Force Wall' new!

He couldn't help but grin. There were many duplicate spellbooks, but there were also 4 that Al hadn't learned yet. Among them, 2 were spells that the mage we fought earlier had mastered.

There seems to be no spellbook for "Erase Magic."

Now, what to do. We'll likely have to load those 2 prisoners into this carriage along with Eric's group.

"Mr. Reginald, may we keep this box on our side? I'd rather not have it with the two prisoners."

"Sure, if it's not in the way?"

Hearing this exchange, Cole starts acting up even more. It seems rather important to him.

"Mr. Cole, calm down, or we'll dispose of this material?"

The tantrum stops abruptly. How predictable.

 "Please behave. We'll talk later..."

As Al spoke soothingly, Cole's attitude suddenly changed, and now he nodded repeatedly with a joyful expression. Seeing this, Al slightly regretted saying he would listen.

"Well then, Lady Leda, please take care of Mr. Eric and the prisoners."

Reginald's subordinates placed Cole and Rachel in the carriage, tightly binding them to the seats with ropes to prevent any struggles. Leda and Eric sat in the third row, leaving a gap between them.

Although it felt uneasy to leave just the two of them in charge, there were no extra people available. The carriage driver, one of Reginald's subordinates, began to head towards the hill where Desmond and the others should still be.

"Next, we'll meet up with Orson and rescue the people at the villa."

After seeing the carriage off, Al stored the beautifully decorated box and the bodies of Cole's guards and the coachman in the Magic Bag.
