Volume 2 Chapter 13 [Alliance SIDE] A Past Major Blunder That Has Turned Into Current Anger
That anger has turned into something now.
"Fuck! I'll never forgive that piece of shit for what they did!"
Pastor arrived at the building used by the Cedal Alliance.
His expression was so consumed by rage that Cedal, who was casually pondering in the office whether 'that flat-chested girl had disappeared and if they should get a new one,' was startled when Pastor burst in.
To him, Pastor seemed like the type who would wonder, 'Hm, I wonder if the communication equipment has arrived yet.'
So, it's no wonder he was surprised when Pastor entered the office, and he was pissed off to perfection.
Pastor abruptly stood up from his chair and then plopped down heavily in it.
And he's been going wild ever since.
"Just because he's the hero's master, he treat me like an idiot! Who the hell does he think he is?!"
Cedal could sort of guess what had happened.
After all... if Pastor had come here calm, he'd probably be nitpicking about the quality of the furniture here, so it's a relief that his anger is making him oblivious.
...He'll calm down soon, so he should prepare some new furniture.
"Cedal, how's the 'Court Adventurers' plan going?"
"Currently, we're gathering Adventurers who agree with us... but the S-rank guild 'Excalibur' has been accused of stealing Horace's supplies and got arrested. As a result, the momentum has slowed down, but it's not as bad as before."
"That guy again! He's the master of the hero community, isn't he? The hero community is part of the Adventurers' community. You'd think they could turn a blind eye to a little crime..."
Pastor's anger is simmering up.
"Why the hell isn't my plan moving forward? If this damn Court Adventurers thing gets recognized, Adventurers will finally own this whole era! The nobles and the churches, they've done jack shit against the Demon Lord.
The hero community took him down on their own, no help from anybody. The world's finally about to fall under the Adventurers' Guild! I've done all the groundwork──so why the hell aren't things moving?"
...This world's never had Adventurers take control of everything before.
The guild's supposed to keep its distance from factions.
Basically, Adventurers never push an agenda that goes beyond 'just being an Adventurer'.
Of course, there have always been people like Rangella and his crew──Adventurers who rack up big achievements and grab piles of money and fame along the way.
But even heroes like that, if they ever try to build a nation off their exploits, they have to give up being Adventurers.
Founding a country means becoming a king.
And that's not who an Adventurer is supposed to be.
Sure, they've got plenty of influence.
In a world where killing monsters means you get coins in your pocket, it's Adventurers who can take down the huge beasts and cash in big.
Still──above all else──'Adventurer' means never forgetting what that actually is.
Whether Pastor gets that or not... who knows.
"Damn it, there aren't enough high-rank Adventurers anymore. That's just another pain in my ass. Shit──Aaaaargh!"
Pastor lets out a frustrated howl.
Fewer top-tier Adventurers than before?
That's just how things are now.
Maybe women with good magic control skills will join up, since Adventuring is mostly bloody work, but really──it's a job with way more men than women.
Naturally, most high-rank Adventurers are men too.
Still, once the Demon Lord appeared, suddenly everyone had a single, clear target.
Of course, everyone knew the Demon Lord had the power to dominate men... but there were people who underestimated the Demon Lord, just like they underestimated the heroes.
Many 'headquarters staff' seriously believed they could escape the Demon Lord's power just by wearing a 'mental abnormal resistance' magic item.
So, they gathered the association's artisans and magic tool technicians to mass-produce 'mental abnormal resistance' magic items, and recruited high-ranking Adventurers who would come along for the money.
To be exact, 1000 A-rank Adventurers.
They gathered 1000 people who were more than just upper-class; they were 'excellent'.
They gave everyone mental abnormal resistance items and attacked the 'big city', which was then the front line of the Demon Lord's army and where the Demon Lord was known to be.
They charged in, full of enthusiasm, thinking they could become heroes by defeating the Demon Lord... but the moment the Demon Lord appeared, they were all captivated.
It was a huge blunder, but it was covered up because of the great success of Rangella and the others at the time, and because many countries were weakening and people wanted to hear 'good news'.
And, 4 years before the Demon Lord's defeat, the person who planned and executed this operation was the Pastor, who was 19 years old at the time.
1000 A-rank Adventurers, workshops to create magic items, and those who transported the necessary supplies.
As for whether such a young executive could handle this, his 'achievements so far' and 'authority' were not a problem.
But he had many brilliant minds under him, and the budget he could handle wasn't enough... the truth is, 'the association headquarters is in debt to the hero community'.
And without achieving any results, all the Adventurers were turned into monsters by the 'poison' given to them by the Demon Lord, and were defeated by Rangella and the others.
At least, since the Pastor is underestimating the hero and his teacher so much, he probably doesn't know about the debt.
"You think you can make a fool out of me? I'll make the damn Court Adventurers recognize me, just you watch! I'm an executive at the main office──I'm the one who manages Adventurers! Any Adventurer who mocks me, and even their so-called mentors, I'll never forgive them!"
The Pastor remembers.
Four years ago, when he massively screwed up.
Ever since that day, newspapers started running bigger stories about the hero community's achievements and progress.
Not just Rangella and the other bigwigs──every minor success from the members got a mention.
The pages were packed with their stories.
"The Court Adventurers project is basically national invasion by using the whole 'immigration' angle. Once I make this work, my name goes down in history as the guy who let Adventurers control the world. Diamante Kingdom, Chaos Stone Dragonstone Kingdom──I'll use both as my stepping stones!"
Dragonstone Kingdom's got a hero, so Adventurers are riding high over there.
And in Diamante Kingdom, it's not just an influx of Adventurers──they already have an 'immigrant problem' from all the so-called 'refugees.'
In both kingdoms, he imagines the Adventurers Association taking over the government itself.
That's the scenario he's come up with... or maybe just his wild fantasy.
