Volume 3 Chapter 17 Mismatch
Several minutes after Robert left.
"The Calamityshade Dragon, Terra Disas. Never heard of it!" Cindy shrugged.
"That monster is supposed to revive in 2 weeks... but it looks pretty relaxed about it, huh? Master." Rangella noted.
The lobby of the Heroic Residence.
Cindy lounges on the sofa, Ellie peacefully resting on her lap, while Rangella and Ulrika explain the Calamityshade Dragon, clearly surprised.
Still, Ellie looks happy with her head on Cindy's lap, so maybe she's unaware of the tension inside.
"But yeah, we've at least prepared for it."
"Prepared?"
"Yeah. Even though my goal in building the 'Deus Ex Machina' isn't exactly for this, I've still planned for a fight with it. Just in case."
"Using that... will we really have a chance? Are we involved at all?"
Horace frowns at Rangella's question.
"Honestly... I've got a weird feeling about this."
"Weird?"
"Yeah. Something just feels off."
Horace sets down a newspaper on the table.
"Robert's mission is definitely to seal the Calamityshade Dragon. But... the Order of the Sealed Dragon should have info on Terra Disas from past encounters. I don't see him winning."
"Hmm? So, master, you're saying they sent someone who definitely can't win?"
"Exactly. Even compared to Gai Gigant or Zeth Halcon, I can't see him winning."
"It's a case of conflicting info, I guess~. But how it conflicts~? Hard to say, since we barely have any details~."
Ulrika ponders, but her thinking speed is limited if the info isn't complete.
"Dad knows a lot about the Order of the Sealed Dragon, but that was over 15 years ago. My memory's fuzzy too... Still, there *should* be someone on par with SS-ranked Adventurers. Probably Robert's around A-rank."
"He's not weak... but he might not be strong enough to handle this dragon."
"Exactly. That's what's bothering me, Rangella."
Horace questions why the personnel department picked Robert, but he's not dissatisfied with the organization itself──the Order of the Sealed Dragon.
To stop the demi-humans beyond the great western mountain range, we must gain the upper hand over the 'strongest species'──the dragons.
This way, we can create a relationship where 'if needed, we can sway the dragons to our side.'
There is a certain order to things, and our efforts to maintain it should be recognized.
Most of the Order of the Sealed Dragon agrees there's no issue.
But with Robert, there's a strong sense of 'why?'
"The Order of the Sealed Dragon's estimate of Terra Disas's strength is weaker than the info he got. Is that even possible...?"
"And how did you get info on Terra Disas, Master?"
"Yeah, is there a library in the Diamante Kingdom's capital?"
"Yeah, it's said to have the most extensive collection in the Bloodline Nations~."
"I read every book there, everyone, even the ones I shouldn't have been able to, using my government connections."
"That's something a normal person couldn't do──wowwww!"
Cindy screamed in awe.
"Yeah, I get that, but the Order of the Sealed Dragon should know facts that are even beyond my access."
"Master, the chaos brought by dragons is multifaceted..."
"Yeah. They say a dragon alone can cause a disaster, but in other words, without deep knowledge of 'disasters,' you can't truly grasp their power, right?"
"..."
Horace stayed silent.
"Well, you see, as for actually defeating them, the Order of the Sealed Dragon has that knowledge too. But it's because they lack knowledge of 'disasters' that they don't understand the full scope of what Terra Disas is."
"That could be it~... Wait, how did you read 200,000 books~!?"
"I gave a bunch of golems the ability to recognize text and unleashed them in the library."
"I've never heard of 'releasing golems' in a library before, Master!"
"...I guess Master's head really is a bit strange~."
There are some things in this world that are just hopeless.
Like Horace's head.
"Well, it's good to be underestimated, I guess. But still, I've got my moments, you know."
"What do you mean, Master?"
"There's more than just me and the Order of the Sealed Dragon expecting the revival of Terra Disas. There's definitely one more out there."
"Another one?"
"Yeah... can't really talk about it here, though, Ulrika."
Horace sighed.
"Hm? Is it just me, or is it getting rowdy outside?"
Looking at the mansion's entrance, Horace spoke.
"Can't hear a thing, myself~"
"Master's bad hearing is nothing new."
"It's not just his ears, it's his whole body that's wonky!"
"Whose side are you guys on, anyway?"
Horace felt a bit deflated at Ulrika, Rangella and Cindy's words, knowing exactly what he wanted to say but often treated like an outsider in more ways than one.
...After all, being a 'monster' who died once and came back with a revival item was a fact that Horace had stated.
Getting labeled as such couldn't be helped.
"Sigh, wonder what Robert's dragging into this now."
Horace muttered to himself.
