"Wha... what? You want me to kill Vega-sama...?"
"That's right."
"Heh... I see. So that's what this is about."
"? What do you mean?"
"You're the goddess worshipped by humans, aren't you. That means you're here to wipe out us Demonkin, right? Well, duh. Anyone could figure that out."
"What are you talking about?"
"Oh, come off it. Still, trying to make me kill Demon Vega-sama for you, without getting your own hands dirty... That's pretty sly for a goddess."
"Ah, so that's how you took it. Hehe..."
...Was I wrong?
"No, not exactly. I wasn't clear enough. Let me say it properly..."
"Say what?"
"Demonkin No. 3, 'Right Minister' Valtera. Kill Demon Vega. Lead the Demonkin. Then... kill Yuki Takeru."
"Not just Vega-sama, but Yuki Takeru too... you want them both dead?"
"Yes. Actually, the one I truly want dead... is Yuki Takeru, not Vega."
"What...!?"
Tera the goddess says it straight──her real target is Yuki Takeru.
"Wait, aren't you supposed to be the goddess humans worship?!"
"Yes, that's right."
"Then why are you asking me to kill Yuki Takeru, the one fighting for the human side...?"
"That's our business, not yours. Right?"
"..."
"Even so, it's not like this is a bad deal for you... or am I wrong?"
"..."
Goddess Tera grins, like she can see right through me.
"Valtera... Isn't your real wish to break Vega's regime? And you can't stand this 'new age of coexistence' with other races, can you? My offer's exactly what you want, isn't it?"
"..."
"And, if you agree... I'll help you out. You'll get appropriate support from my side."
"Support?"
"Yeah. Like... say, boosting your power."
"What?!"
"Heh, surprised? You know you can't kill Demon Vega-sama or Yuki Takeru alone right now, right? So, this much is only natural. And it's not just about making you stronger──I'm ready to hand over anything else you'll need to kill them, too. So, how about it?"
"..."
I hated to admit it, but Tera──the goddess──was completely right.
With my power now, I can't kill Demon Vega-sama. I can't kill Yuki Takeru. I can't stop this "new era of coexistence." I couldn't even try. I'd already given up, deep down.
But then, out of nowhere, goddess Tera appeared before me. Her crazy offer felt like a lifeline thrown to a drowning man.
"I'll admit──your proposal is tempting. But why... why go this far for me? Honestly, with the power you just showed, Tera, couldn't you kill both Demon Vega-sama and Yuki Takeru yourself?"
"Oh, I can't do that. There are lots of rules about gods interfering on the surface."
"Rules?"
"It's a long story, so I'll skip it. Just know there's a reason, okay? Not like I'm weak──I showed you a taste of what I can do, didn't I? But what I *can* do is this: making contact with someone down here. Finding a partner like you. Of course, even that's got some limits, so I can't do it just anytime, with anyone..."
Tera let out a soft laugh as she said it.
Hmm. Well, in that case, I've got nothing to lose.
"...Fine. Let's work together."
"Heh, thanks. You're a real lifesaver."
And so, I made a pact with goddess Tera.

After that, I used the "Puppet Poison" Tera gave me──and slipped it right into Vega's food... no, Demon Vega-sama's food. I pulled it off. Vega became my puppet.
To be honest, Demon Vega-sama was always proud of her resistance to this kind of thing. She even bragged, "Poison doesn't work on me," to goddess Tera. But Tera just grinned and shot back, "Don't worry, this stuff isn't from your world. It's way stronger." And she meant every word.
Even so, I was only half-convinced.
But the poison worked──perfectly. Vega became my puppet.
It felt incredible.
After that, I separated Vega from Yuki Takeru. Forced Vega to declare war on the humans and all the other races.
Launched the invasion right then and there.
Demon Lord Vega, powered up, crushed the human armies and tore through the other races. Utter carnage.
It was the best.
For someone like me, who's swallowed endless humiliation to survive──this was the view I'd dreamed of.
In that moment, I was glad I'd listened to goddess Tera's advice.
But that's when it happened.
That's when Mare started begging──desperately──to stop Vega.
