Chapter 166-2 Messenger from Reskuvan

Chapter 166-2 Messenger from Reskuvan

Basically, I guess I've got myself some fans now.

Thought it'd just be a silly dream, but nope ── I really did get fans.

Well, I mean, as the protagonist, it's only natural to have one or 2 devoted followers, right?

 That's within expectations.

The hero doesn't get caught up in it.

 Ah──wait, that's a lie.

When I first heard about this from Captain, I absolutely freaked out.

 I mean──*my name got called.* That's a big deal.

Reskuvan's one of the youngest seats in the Twelve Seats ── I've only recently gotten close.

When I heard I was getting VIP attention from such an elite group, yeah──I couldn't help but jump for joy.

"Speaking of Lady Lisemone... after the previous head passed, the new young lady took her place. I never expected someone like her to be interested in Merifar."

"There's clearly a reason for all this. You're probably aware of how the previous head died, right?"

"Huh. I see. So... it was her who murdered the former head?"

"Yes. I've heard Sir Hiiro worked with some knights from his squad to drive off her father's vengeful spirit ── [Licking Shadow], I believe. And that must've caught Lady Lisemone's attention."

 "*That's* when I truly understood."

 Zetsu, huh?

I've always wondered how I ended up encountering her in that place... but once I learned she'd been targeting the assassination of Reskuvan's head, I was utterly floored.

Real, genuine danger. The kind that chills you to the bone.

Even now, just thinking back makes my body freeze. And honestly, the fact that our brush in that moment led to catching the eye of the new head ── I never saw that coming.

Guess you really can't predict how things will turn out.

Yeah, sure, 'beautiful' might be pushing it a bit when Nep's talking about how perfect it was, but...

And honestly, the one who actually chased them off was Shura. That part's fact.

Everyone probably knows that, but there's gotta be some reason why it's only me they're focusing on, right?

Or maybe it's just because I'm the protagonist.

The protagonist correction ── that magic fix-all, huh?

"One more thing. I have a concern. Earlier, you said this quest was originally assigned to another team. Is that right?"

"Indeed. This also ties into why we've chosen Sir Hiiro instead of the Reginleif team for this mission."

 "Hm? And that is?"

"Normally, it would've been proper to simply change the nomination to the Reginleif team. I'm aware it's not the most mannerly thing to do, but I've heard it's not without precedent. However, with the original team in question..."

 "Mhm."

"Turns out, there's a candidate for the next head of the Twelve Seats, like Lady Lisemone, in that unit. Changing the nomination could strain our relations with them. Yet, she's quite keen on having Sir Hiiro take on this quest."

Sheesh, this isn't solved at all.

Sure, the team getting their nomination changed wouldn't be happy, and having the Twelve Seats at odds is the last thing we need.

"Thus, Lady Lisemone proposes that we should just get both of them to accept it."

"I see. So, you're only naming Merifar then?"

"That's correct. Therefore, Sir Hiiro Merifar. On behalf of the Reskuvan family, we reextend our request to you."

This offer seems too good to ignore, but if it's going to cause a rift of that magnitude...

I thought I'd have to decline, but it seems the Reskuvan family has a plan to resolve this issue.

After hearing the head maid's rather forceful approach, I got a strong impression of the unseen Fangirl ── 'Ah, she's quite the assertive type, isn't she?'

"──We would like Sir Hiiro to temporarily join the 'Sveiz Team,' whom Reskuvan originally commissioned, and carry out this quest."

* * *

"Phew. I must admit, I was nervous dealing with a knight..."

"Oh, looks like the noisy one's back."

"Ah, Shouk! You've ruined your tuxedo again! It's not okay, not okay at all! You lack the self-awareness needed to serve the Reskuvan family, Shouk!"

"Ugh, shut up already. If you've come back, then hurry and report to Lady Lisemone, you little maid."

"Ugh. No matter how much she owes, why on earth did she hire someone like you as her aide, Lady Lisemone? Talk about being capricious..."

"You're the one who was chosen by Lady Lisemone, though. So don't go judging others. Hey, 'Junior Maid Commander,' right? You accepted that meeting today, didn't you?"

"This arrogant butler of ours sure doesn't hold his tongue, huh? Don't worry──we got her approval, anyway."

"Well then. Hurry up and report back. I'll be waiting here──neck stretched long in the office."

"You don't even need to be told! I'll go──so stop messing around and do your job properly! Got it?"

 "Yeah, yeah."

"I see. That loser... Looks like he's gotten a bit cocky lately. Keh. Hope he screws up some quest and gets humiliated, I really do."
