Volume 6 Chapter 93-2 The Magician's Battle is Hard to Draw
Randy brushed away Ellie's magic punch with a bored flick, then flicked a quick glance at Liz with a crooked grin.
"But──"
"It's working. Just watch."
When Randy pointed at Ellie and shouted, "See?!"──the dark aura swirling around Ellie flickered like a flame held close to a mirror.
"Told ya, it's hitting home, right?"
Liz, laughing along with Randy, called out to Ellie.
Her voice broke the air──loud, raw, unhideable──more from her soul than her lungs.
Ellie's body wavered in the air──fluttering, unsteady──like a candle flickering in a gust.
Her trembling hands, her broken sobs──Liz's heart clenched.
She yelled her name once more, desperate.
"Ugh... Liz... Randy..."
That strained voice──certainly Ellie's.
No possession, no curse──just Ellie, raw and real, crying out in pain. Liz's chest tightened at that truth.
Her so-called hope, their Ellie──still fighting, still herself.
She shouted again, louder──more fierce──trying to shake Ellie free.
But Ellie, trembling, shook her head tiny but resolute.
"Both of you──"
"Hang on. I'll save you soon. Just hold tight."
Ellie's eyes widened in surprise as Randy, about to act, was interrupted by her voice──clear, fierce.
"That's right! I won't give up──for anything!"
Liz's soul-shaking cry echoed in Randy's ears──so fierce that he smirked, amused by her fire.
"Don't worry. Just rest easy. We'll kick out whoever dared invade your body──without asking."
As Randy's grin grew devilish, Liz nodded, Ellie offered a faint smile──then suddenly, the very darkness around Ellie surged; black malice cloaked her again.
"Liz──"
"Randy!"
Liz's voice was so loud it drowned out everything else.
Randy jerked, almost startled, and whirled around.
"Keep her busy! I'm loading something big──more power, more resolve. A one-shot that'll blow with my feeling."
Liz gripped her staff tightly, and Randy gave her a thumbs-up, shouting, "Okay!" before charging at Ellie again.
Spears rained down, but Randy didn't just dodge—he used them as stepping stones, moving in three dimensions to close the distance. Ellie evaded his strike with a short-distance teleport, but Randy had already begun to seize the threads of her magic.
Randy whirled around and hurled a chunk of mithril from his magic bag.
Instantly, crafted within the bag, it morphed into a colossal staple.
The giant staple seized Ellie's body, along with her magical power barrier.
A giant staple made of mithril.
It pinned Ellie to the wall, barrier and all.
But it was only for a moment.
Ellie dispelled the barrier, slipped through the gap, and was gone.
"Damn it. Always scurrying around..."
Before Randy, who was frowning, Ellie began muttering a magic spell.
"'Those who dwell in the primal darkness, those who sit beyond the abyss──'"
Liz, hearing the incantation begin, couldn't help but look up and shout at Randy.
"Randy, that incantation──!"
Seeing Liz's desperate state, and the ridiculous amount of magical power building up, Randy tried to stop Ellie.
However, she created not only short-range teleportation, but also pitch-black blades and spears, keeping Randy away.
"'The black jaws that rend the eternal, hollow night sky
The chains called the yoke of reason that bind all creation
I shall now unleash all that binds you──'"
A giant blade swung down at Randy, who was closing in.
He punched it away──but then, countless spears flew at him.
Not even bothering to dodge, Randy leapt up, ignoring the spears that tore into his flesh, and reached for Ellie.
But she teleported again, appearing far behind him.
"'The time to offer the sacrifice has come
Devour, consume, and drink down everything in this world──'"
As Ellie finished her incantation, a jet-black jaw appeared from the void.
The same great magic that had devoured even the false goddess.
It appeared directly beneath Randy, who was suspended in mid-air.
Black chains emerged from the jaw and wrapped around Randy's body.
Randy was suspended in the air, held by the chains.
Ellie grinned for the first time, seeing his predicament.
'Cry, scream──'
Randy grinned back at the whispered words.
"It's clear now. You're not Ellie, are you?"
Randy, grinning, wrapped the many chains around his torso around his left arm.
"The real Ellie wouldn't need this kind of restraint to take me down."
Randy's twisted grin was met with Ellie──the witch──unleashing her fury for the first time, as she entrusted him with a malevolent glare...!
She chanted the final incantation, "Open, Jaws of the Abyss (Devouring Abyss)."
Just as a colossal, ink-black jaw emerged beneath Randy, snapping ferociously upwards.
The massive jaw bore down on Randy.
Confronted with it, Randy drew a jet-black greatsword from his magic bag.
A greatsword crafted from dragon's horn, handed to him before his departure.
Its ominous aura was so malevolent that it made the witch's magic seem cute by comparison.
In his right hand, the greatsword.
In his left, Randy gripped the chain coiled around his arm, and he flashed a grin at the descending jaw.
"Thanks for this."
With a mighty yank, Randy pulled the chain, luring the jaw closer before slamming the greatsword into it.
The colossal jaw was torn asunder by Randy's greatsword.
As it was cleaved, stars seemed to burst forth, and magical power shimmered around.
The witch's eyes widened at the sight.
Her gaze locked onto Randy, charging straight at her.
In a panic, the witch attempted a short-range teleportation.
Randy, targeting the endpoint of her magical power, reversed his greatsword and hurled it.
The tip of the greatsword appeared before Ellie.
A dense magical barrier sparked as it collided with the greatsword.
With a shower of sparks, Ellie was thrown violently back──
Due to the awkward throw, Randy's greatsword failed to breach Ellie's barrier.
But that was all part of Randy's plan.
Catching up to Ellie and his greatsword, Randy struck the hilt with the palm of his hand.
With a sound like shattering glass, the barrier crumbled.
Randy seized the arm of Ellie, who tried to pull away after her barrier shattered.
Now she can't escape with teleportation.
The fighting spirit that once enveloped the witch dissipated like mist...
'Randy...'
"Quit it. You're not her."
At those words, the witch's face twisted with rage as she generated spears around her.
But Randy's greatsword swinging down towards the witch was even faster.
The greatsword's blade struck the witch's head dead on.
A ringing clang echoed through the air, as if a massive bell had been struck, resonating all around.
The witch's body slowly crumbled in midair.
Randy caught her falling form, holding her close.
"Liz──!"
When she looked back, Liz was already ready ── every inch the picture of calm confidence.
"'Shadow of the collective, which has devoured the true name and gorged itself on faith, answer my question. What do you seek to save in this chaos?'"
