Volume 7 Chapter 17 Sometimes I Don't Say It, So I Might Forget Too

Randy, handed the new blueprint by Noah, muttered, "This is interesting," and spread it out on the floor.

 "Noah, design and planning are──"

"Ms. Emma, this isn't the time for that."

As Noah waved Emma over, other students crouched down around the blueprint.

 "Incredible..."

 "What is this circuit?"

"That's one thing, but this is a magic circle, right?"

Their comments focused on the circuit and magic circle designed by Liz and Ellie. While Randy had the initial idea, it was Liz and Ellie's ingenuity that brought it to life, so it couldn't be helped.

 But only Noah──

──was interested in the system Randy had been working on. This was the most important part of what Randy had envisioned to make copying possible while keeping costs down.

"This is interesting. Especially this idea of the light-reflecting concave plate—it's very intriguing."

"Is there a prototype of this?"

Noah's eyes sparkled as he looked at Randy, who exchanged glances with Liz and Ellie before shaking his head.

"We haven't found any suitable material for the lens part."

Randy explained that the lens relied on magic to prevent blurring and distortion that physical lenses alone couldn't handle. However, they hadn't identified any materials that would work.

"It's one of the reasons we came here."

Randy sighed, and Noah murmured, "The lens..." Meanwhile, Emma and the other students began exchanging ideas, asking, "What about this?"

The brainstorming session kicked off, with unfamiliar material names flying around and disappearing. Eventually, one student's suggestion caught everyone's attention.

 "What about Illusory Strain Crystal?"

 "Illusory Strain Crystal?"

"The one for the Illusory Sight Tube? Isn't that a kid's toy?"

"Idiot. It was supposed to be key for the attribute-phase filter."

"Though the filter's accuracy is questionable."

The idea was briefly dismissed, but the mood shifted when someone muttered, "No, it might work."

 "Certainly, focusing it requires skill..."

"Isn't it interesting that the magical power allows for variability?"

"If we shape it into a lens form and utilize its variability──"

 "It might actually work."

Ignoring the excited students, Randy asked Emma nearby, "An Illusory Strain Crystal?"

"Illusory Strain Crystals are mysterious stones that change shape with magical power. They used to be used for magical power diagnostics and attribute diagnostics, but recently they're used as children's toys."

Emma explained the uses and characteristics of Illusory Strain Crystals. Their variability and changing refractive index were once used to judge the quality of magical power—essentially, a tool to determine attributes highly compatible with one's own magic.

However, Illusory Strain Crystal diagnostics are known for their inaccuracy. Recently, other methods have been adopted, and the unused crystals are now used as children's toys.

"Of course, they're also used in proper magic tools like the magic light tuner, but they're not common."

Emma described a lantern that can narrow or broaden its light, designed for use in places like mines. It spreads light in wide areas and focuses it in narrow spaces.

"I see. So it's a light that utilizes the variability and refractive index changes due to magical power."

Next to Randy, who seemed convinced, Emma continued excitedly, "By the way, even though it's a toy for children, this one is quite beautiful──" When you press a button, the random flow of magical power changes the crystal's shape, refracting light to emit colors of various attributes. It's like a kaleidoscope from another world.

As Emma's explanation and the students' brainstorming ended, one student said, "I'll go get it," and left the laboratory.

"Awesome. Do they actually have the real thing?"

"Well, yeah. You can find quite a lot of these stones around Waldner."

They sometimes appear when digging copper mountains, but now they're only used for children's toys. In other words, there's quite a lot left over.

"If this works, His Excellency's operation could become even more profitable."

Randy smiled, seeing how Braubelg, Hartfield, and Waldner were steadily developing.

 "Well, it's worth a try."

Just as Noah said this excitedly, the student who'd gone to fetch the Illusory Strain Crystal returned. They brought several crystal-like stones and a few already processed into thin glass-like sheets. While they looked like art pieces, in this fantasy world, more beautiful stones were common, so these couldn't compete.

"Can I apply some magical power to it?"

Ellie stepped forward, and Randy warned, "Don't break it."

 "Idiot. I can handle it."

Ellie grimaced, took the crystal, and slowly infused it with magical power. The glass-like crystal bent, and the magic passing through it split into seven colors.

 "Incredible..."

 "All attributes!"
