Volume 1 Chapter 34 A Gift from the Hero
'Weird. Why? All I wanted was to make something for Sister Alice, that's all, wasn't it?'
Cain stared at the two thousand abacuses stacked in front of him, trying to make sense of it.
The abacuses Cain had crafted were brought straight to the Merchant Guild and registered as a new invention.
Once registered, the guild would list the creator; the order of inventors would be there for all to see.
The first one to invent something even got royalties when copycats popped up later──nice perk.
Which meant... now Cain had extra paperwork, adding the Sanroze family's seal to every single abacus.
Just how it goes.
Not that it made it any less of a pain. Cain suspected there'd be fights over what even counted as a "copy," so he'd asked ahead. The answer? Lord Helme, god of commerce, would decide.
If a god calls the shots, nobody's stupid enough to argue.
A few days later, Cain was officially recognized as the abacus's first creator. Luke and Lydia were over the moon.
But then the real shocker: they'd sold each abacus for 3 gold coins. Six thousand of them──totaling 6 thousand gold.
This world runs on copper, silver, gold, and platinum coins──each ranking up at a hundred.
Say a copper is worth ten yen; that makes a gold coin worth a hundred thousand. Six thousand gold? Six hundred million yen.
Yeah... anyone would be thrilled.
The first lot of abacuses sold out in a flash, so Cain whipped up another thousand. Maybe that would hold them for a while. At least some of the debt's paid off now, right? Maybe Luke, his father, could finally stop losing sleep over the budget, too. Cain carried the next thousand abacuses to the office──and was greeted by Luke's broad, relieved grin.
"Cain, really──this time you saved us. Thanks to you, we'll have the castle walls patched up and the roads checked before winter sets in. Lydia and I talked about your share, and we agreed. Whatever you want──it's yours. Just name it."
'If this were Michio, the past me, he'd be an adult and demand half the profits without missing a beat. But Cain──6 years old, the current me, and nowhere to spend that kind of money anyway──had a different plan.'
"Yes, Father. Next time you roast sweet potatoes, could I have 2?"
At that age, sweets he could actually eat sounded like the best prize of all.
Luke's eyes bugged out in utter disbelief.
Then, after a moment──. He burst out laughing.
"Good job, Cain. Good job. Next time you bake a Satsuma, you can have 2, you know. I'm proud to have a son like you, Cain."
He said, scratching Cain's head with a satisfied grin.
"Yay!"
'Heh heh heh, now I can eat 2 of my own Satsumas at once. Yes!'
Cain was far from innocent.

Cain left Luke's office and made his way to the library.
He had been too busy making "abacuses" to collect a gift from the hero.
Entering the library, he lit a magical lamp and opened "The Book of Heroes".
"Hmmm, where did it go? There's no place for glasses in here, is there?"
He lifted "The Book of Heroes," flipped it over, and searched every nook and cranny.
As he touched the back cover, something caught his fingers and fell out.
With a "clink," what looked like a tiny pair of glasses dropped to the floor.
"These glasses are only about 10 cm, but how are you supposed to use them?"
Tiny glasses?
He opened the frame-like ears and put them on, and the glasses in his hand resized to fit Cain perfectly.
"Amazing, they adjust to size? Are they enchanted with [magic]? Let's try them on."
He put on the glasses, but nothing seemed to change.
There's no manual, is there?
Just as he thought that, a window opened in front of his eyes.
"Hey, thanks for accepting the gift.
Let me explain how to use it.
These [Glasses of Analysis] are enchanted with [magic] for [enlargement and reduction], just as you've noticed.
When not in use, they stay small, and when you need them, they adjust to the perfect size.
To use [Analysis], simply look at what you want to analyze and think 'Analysis'. A window will appear in front of you with the analysis results."
After Cain finished reading the instructions, the window closed.
"Does this mean I'm joining the ranks of the cheaters?"
Cain thought his life in this other world had just gotten a lot more interesting.
