Volume 1 Chapter 43 Let's Create a Path IV
Cain and Gardy arrived at the training ground to practice their [magic].
"Let's start small and work our way up. Gardy, get ready with the [magic] and draw a few 1m by 1m squares for me, will ya?"
With a crunch and grind, Gardy etched lines into the ground, creating about 5 squares.
Meanwhile, Cain began his "Circulation" spell nearby.
He infused 256 stones' worth of [Mana] into the spell.
Managing [Mana] with an MP of 300 for "Circulation" was a first, and he struggled to keep the wild energy in check, desperate to stabilize it.
After nearly 5 minutes of fighting to steady the [Mana], he finally began to chant the incantation.
"...Stone."
As he placed his hand on the ground and spoke with authority, the soil within Gardy's squares transformed into stone.
Once the glow faded, a patchwork of uneven stone tiles lay before them.
"Phew, it turned to stone, but it's got gaps and the surfaces are all uneven. Plus, the spaces between stones aren't consistent. Not very pretty."
Cain critiqued harshly, but Gardy was watching with admiring eyes.
"Alright, let's try again. How about we make the lines more defined this time? Think you can help me out, Gardy?"
Together, Cain and Gardy drew lines like a Go board's grid.
"Okay, starting 'Circulation' again... and... ...Stone."
Cain repeated the "Circulation" spell and chanted with a strong voice.
Just as before, the ground glowed and transformed into "stone tiles."
"Oh, no gaps this time. I suppose having lines makes it easier to visualize. But where the lines curve, the stone got all warped."
Once more, Cain offered his sharp comments, but Gardy remained silent.
He himself couldn't use [magic] and lacked knowledge, but he'd seen multiple companions perform the same [magic] and cause similar phenomena.
Yet, none could alter [magic] like Cain did.
"Alright, let's try drawing the lines even straighter next. Your turn, Gardy."
"Y-Yes, sir," Gardy replied, as they used a board from the edge of the training ground as a makeshift ruler to draw the lines.
"Third time's the charm... Stone."
With every try, the spell from 'Circulation' flowed more smoothly──almost effortless now.
When the glow faded, a neatly aligned stone-paved path stretched out before them.
"Alright! Finally got it perfect. Now, I just need to make it repeat automatically. Hmm... let's try expanding the range a bit. Maybe a 1m by 2m section──Gardy, how about that?"
The pair quickly went back to dashing lines, carving out the grid like skilled carpenters.
When they touched the grid lines and recited the spell, even the 1m x 2m stretch turned into a flawless stone path.
"Yes! Success! With the guides, I can stretch it out even further. We'll do the rest on the castle grounds──Gardy, we'll set it up there."
"Sir Cain, first──let's have lunch. And after that, we'll tidy this up too."
Gardy pointed at the training ground, where the stone pavement shimmered and shimmered──still fresh and crisp.
"Yeah, you're right. I forgot I was starving. I'll erase this right away──'Delete'."
Cain gently waved his hand through the air, dismissing the stone-paved path into nothingness.
After lunch, Cain, Gardy, and Randolph stood in front of the castle's main road.
"First, we draw the lines again. Watch closely, Randolph──I'll do it once, so focus."
Cain and Gardy swiftly traced lines once more, their hands confident and precise.
They decided to start with a straight section first.
The road before the castle stretched straight from the gate, then curved gently at the entrance, like a carriage ready to roll out.
Cain recited 'Stone' for the fifth time today.
The line he drew shimmered and then transformed into a smooth stone path, just like before.
Gardy looked on coolly, used to it, but Randolph's jaw was dropped in shock.
Soon, Randolph, still amazed, helped draw the last lines, and by dinnertime, the entire stretch in front of the castle was paved with gleaming stones.
As Gardy and Cain finished tidying up, Randolph suddenly called Luke over──proudly announcing the job was done.
Luke's eyes widened in disbelief, just like Randolph's earlier shock.
Seeing that, Cain grinned, gave Gardy a triumphant high-5, and shared in the joy of their success.
