Volume 1 Chapter 48 Hero's Cuisine

It's been just a month since the "cobblestone" project wrapped up.

The "cobblestone" upgrade caused a bigger stir than imagined, with petitions pouring in from the Commerce Guild and beyond, all wanting their streets redone too.

Plus, the main road's shops have seen a surge in volunteer cleaners, making the streets spotless even during the day──no more horse droppings or trash in sight.

And now, there's a request to pave the square where the bazaar's held.

Randolph's calculating the fees since the guild's willing to pay for the job.

As for Cain, he figures any help's good enough, even if it's just pocket change.

Word's spread to neighboring territories too.

It seems Count Shield from the borderlands is coming for an inspection.

Cain barely remembers him from when he was 3──too young to recall much.

Since Margrave Shield is Lydia's father, Luke's a bit nervous around his father-in-law.

Luke's face twisted like he'd bitten into a bitter bug when they told him about the inspection.

"Father, for the inspection, we're only showing the 'main road' and the 'path in front of the mansion,' right? Shouldn't we prepare something else?"

"Cain, our Sanroze household has no special products. We'll have the knight order hunt nearby monsters and guard the area. Preparing monster meat will be challenge enough."

Luke said, his voice tinged with a sigh.

"Dear, there's no need to belittle yourself. The 'cobblestone' road alone is impressive."

 Lydia offered kindly.

"If our house had some delicious dish, we could treat the old gentleman..."

 Alice mumbled softly.

"Right, a dish! Father, Mother Lydia, how about we serve a delicious meal that Shield Margrave has never tasted, one from 'The Book of the Hero'?"

""Huh? There's such a thing in 'The Book of the Hero'?""

 Luke and Lydia's voices overlapped.

'Oops, guess I forgot to mention that. Hope it's not a bust...'

"Sorry, I found it a while ago but forgot to say anything... been so busy... my apologies."

Cain bowed his head, the weight of guilt pressing down on his shoulders.

"We can go over your report later. For now, tell me everything you know. And fetch the head chef."

The instant Randolph said, "Understood, sir," he vanished from sight.
