Volume 2 Chapter 11 Let's Build a Fortress II
After they'd settled the fortress details, noon rolled around and everyone decided to eat together. Today, head chef Lloyd had made his special "hamburger sandwiches." But really, it looked like a giant burger──the bun was twice the size of normal, the patty was just as huge, and it was stuffed with leafy veggies, tomato, and a thick sauce mixed with mayo.
"""So good!! Thank you, Lord! I'm so happy I get to eat something this tasty!"""
The guests──everyone except the Sanroze family──shouted their thanks to Luke, already lost in devouring their food.
"Cain, what do you call this food?"
Luke asked Cain out of nowhere. Before he could stop himself, Cain answered, "It's called a hamburger."
He winced inside. He shouldn't have said it, but it just slipped out.
While Cain started to sweat through his shirt──
"Oh? So this is a 'hamburger.' Yeah, it's delicious."
"Right? And you barely get your hands dirty. Makes it easy to eat!"
"Totally! Plus the bread and meat are huge, just one is enough to fill you up!"
Luke, Arthur, and Chris couldn't stop praising the 'hamburger.'
"Wow, so... did you find this in the Book of the Hero too, Cain?"
Benjamin stared suspiciously at Cain, not buying it.
"Yes, it's just like the 'hamburger' described in the Book of the Hero. How did Chef Lloyd know about it, I wonder?"
Cain worked hard to keep his cool as he answered Benjamin.
"L-Lord, would it be alright if we start selling these 'hamburgers' in town? The taste, the size, how easy it is──workers will love them. Please, I'm begging you!"
The stonemasons' guildmaster stood up, bowing deep to Luke as he pleaded.
"Good. Get the hamburger recipe from Lloyd. You'll be helping with the fortress and wall building. Please make this 'hamburger' popular in the Mason's Guild."
Luke cheerfully agreed to pass on the hamburger recipe to the head of the Mason's Guild.
Later on, the "hamburger" popularized by the Mason's Guild became known as the "sunburger" and introduced a new "food culture" to many people within and outside the territory. Moreover, a harder-bread version called the "sunrock burger," which Cain and his group ate, became particularly popular among craftsmen for a long time.

After lunch, Cain and his group gathered in front of the wall near the Great Deep Forest. They quietly waited as the staff from the Maintenance Bureau collaborated on a draft for the fortress. Cain watched with admiration as the maintenance bureau staff used ropes to draw straight lines on the ground, forming the "trapezoid" shape of the fortress.
An hour or so later, the trapezoid lines were complete. Cain confirmed that everyone was inside the shape before speaking.
"Alright, let's start by making the 'hole.' Please step back a bit."
After Cain's powerful command, a hole 6 meters wide and 3 meters deep was dug out along the lines.
"""Whoa, a-amazing!"""
Luke and the others watching Cain let out a murmur of awe at the sudden appearance of the hole, or rather, the trench.
"Phew, looks like it turned out just as I imagined. I should check the width with the Glasses of Analysis, just in case."
Cain put on the Glasses of Analysis and walked around the trench to confirm. The width was exactly 6 meters with no smaller sections, and any larger parts were only off by up to +5 cm.
Next, Cain moved to the center of the "trapezoid" to start the "Circulation" for building the stone wall. Benjamin stood next to Cain, watching the flow of [Mana].
"Cain, increase the [Mana] mass for the 'Circulation.' Make sure they all connect to form one big lump, like a tube. It should reduce the rebound when using [magic] compared to using a large [Mana] mass."
Cain continued the "Circulation" to form a lump of [Mana] resembling a tube, as Benjamin had instructed.
"Elder Brother Ben, let's do this! [Rock Wall]!!"
He placed his hands on the ground, summoning a massive stone wall with a surge of [Mana]. From the bottom of the trench he had just dug, a sound like "Grumble grumble grumble" rose, as if the earth itself was roaring. The stone wall rose, shaking, and just when it seemed like it would keep growing forever, it stopped with a "Thud."
"""Whoa, what is this?!?!"""
A voice, filled with disbelief at the sight before him, shouted out in awe.
"Haa, haa, haa"
Cain felt like he had just run hundreds of meters at full speed, struggling to breathe as if he couldn't catch air. He barely managed to keep from falling, and Benjamin supported him.
"You okay? You used too much [Mana] all at once, and it's rebounded on your body. Take a break until you recover."
While Cain and Benjamin were dealing with that, the other members approached the stone wall, touching it, pounding on it, and even carving into it. They murmured to each other, "This is amazing," and "Incredible."
After about ten minutes, Cain had calmed down. He approached the stone wall again to focus his image and shouted "[Delete]." Immediately after, a hole opened up, 5 meters wide and 5 meters high, with a dome-shaped top.
"Alright, the entrance is done. I might not be able to move anymore today."
Cain, filled with a sense of accomplishment, passed out and collapsed on the spot.
Seeing this, Luke and his brothers vowed in their hearts, "We will protect Cain." The other participants vowed, "We will protect the Sanroze family."
