Volume 2 Chapter 14 Let's Make a Bath

 "Sir Cain, sorry to keep you waiting. I've brought Sir Randolph, and since Noel was here at the mansion, I brought him along too."

 Just when Cain had hit a wall while thinking about how to build the "bathhouse," he heard a voice of relief. He smiled and turned around.

 "Sir Cain, regarding the 'window'──what kind of 'window' are you imagining?"

 "Hmm, well, it's for ventilation, so it doesn't need to open wide. And it should be something that can't be seen from the outside. Maybe something that pushes out the bottom part from the inside? Do such 'windows' exist?"

 "You mean pushing out the bottom part from the inside? It's possible, but they tend to be a bit larger. I can have a few delivered to the mansion tomorrow."

 "Yeah. Then, Randolph, please bring a few of different sizes and styles."

 Randolph bowed, saying, "Understood," and went back to the mansion.

 "Next, Noel. I want your advice on building the 'bathhouse.' The bathhouse should have a bathtub and a place to wash. Also, a changing room to take off clothes and a room to store extra water. I think I can carve out space within the walls, but I'm worried I can't secure the inner walls or the bathtub."

 Cain muttered, "Hmm... hmm..." as he explained.

 "Sir Cain, do you have to make everything all at once with [magic]? I think things you can make with [magic] should be done with [magic], and for the rest, we can have the Mason guild or the Carpenter guild make them, right?"

 Cain and Gardy looked at each other with surprised faces.

 "You're right, Gardy. It's such a hassle because we're doing everything with [magic]. We can just use [magic] for the walls and bathtub and build the roof the usual way. Noel, you're amazing!"

 "Uh, uh, thank you."

 "Alright then, let's build everything except the roof!" ...Stone Wall.

 Cain solidified the image in his mind and created the outer and inner walls, making 3 rooms.

 "Next, let's make the door and window. But before that, I'll need to circulate the [Mana] with enough concentration, breaking it down into smaller steps to 'Delete,' 'Delete'..."

 As Cain repeated "Delete," the door to the changing room and the window for the bathhouse took shape.

 "Sir Cain, what about the floor? Should it be stone tiles?"

 Gardy pointed at the bare earth and asked, still just walls.

 "I'll make a low stone wall and then a stone floor. For the 'bathhouse,' I'll slope it a bit for drainage. Watch... Stone Wall..."

 The inside ground of the wall rose about 15 cm, quivering as it formed.

 Cain walked around, inspecting the new floor, bath, and walls.

 "See, there are gaps, and some parts are uneven. I guess I need more practice?"

 Gardy and Noel stared, wide-eyed, at Cain's casual comments. In their minds, having Cain around cut the labor and time for building a house by a third.

 "Next, the bath tub. 'Stone Wall' and 'Delete,'"

 Half of the bathhouse became a stone tub.

 "Ah, crap! I forgot about the water supply. Should've put it closer to the well. Guess I need to make a water pipe, but..."

 "Sir Cain, what's a 'water pipe'?"

 Noel asked as Cain muttered to himself, pondering.

 "Hm? Oh, it's a pipe that lets water flow. It's a pain to carry water every time you use the bathhouse, right? So I thought of making a pipe from the well to here to save effort. But, if I use [Create Clay], it might mix with the soil over time. Hmm, maybe I can use [Earth Press]..."

 ~~~
 [Earth Press]
 Applying the Earth Press flattens and hardens the surface under pressure.
 "Let's deal with the water pipe after lunch. Need to check the spot with Randolph too. Gardy, Noel, let's have lunch."
 The 3 headed to the cafeteria for lunch. Cain ate alone today, which felt lonely. So, he decided to eat in the servants' quarters. As a noble, it might not be proper, but Cain, with Michio's memories, found eating alone more painful.
 After lunch, they explained to Randolph and got his permission to resume the work of laying pipes from the well to the bathhouse. Thanks to Noel's knowledge on the angle of the pipes, the 3 of them worked together. They failed a few times, but on the third try, they finally got water flowing into the bath.
 "Phew, that took a while. Noel, Gardy──thanks. Now, all we need to do is fill it up. This is a bit of heavy labor too. Let's take turns and fill it up to half first!"
 Cain, Gardy, and Noel took turns pumping the water in with a "Clack! Clack!" sound until the bath was about half full. They were exhausted and needed a short break. 'We have to find a better way,' Cain thought, 'this is too much work every day.'
 In the "bathhouse," Cain, Gardy, and Noel gathered around, looking at the half-filled bath.
 "Sir Cain, what do we do next?"
 Gardy asked how they would turn this water into hot bathwater.
 "Now, I'll use my [Hot Water] spell to add hot water and adjust the temperature. Watch this [Hot Water]!"
 Hot water gushed out from Cain's hands. After adding more hot water for a while, he stopped. Cain carefully put his hand in to check the temperature, stirred the water, and chanted [Hot Water] again to add more heat.
 He stopped adding hot water when the bath was about 3-quarters full. Steam rose from the bath, looking very inviting. Cain checked the temperature again and murmured, "Just right."
 "Phew, that was tough. It's probably about a 1:2 mix for the right temperature. Gardy, Noel, what do you think?"
 He asked the two who were watching from behind.
 Gardy and Noel also put their hands into the bath to check the temperature. Both seemed quite content as they stirred the water, replying, "It feels just right."
 After that, as Cain suggested, they all enjoyed a foot bath for a while. They warmed their cold bodies, but then realized they hadn't thought about drainage. They worked on the drainage until it got dark.
 'Tomorrow, we'll finally get to use the bath!'
 It had been a tough day, but Cain was excited to take a bath in the long-awaited bathhouse.
