Volume 2 Chapter 23 Second New Year's in Another World III
"When you use the 'structure' to absorb [Mana] into this magic stone, don't forget to set the amount of [Mana] to absorb. Write the number here."
Benjamin pointed to the bottom of the place where the magic stone was placed.
"If you don't specify the 'absorption amount,' the magic stone will absorb [Mana] to its limit and explode. Be careful. In the beginning, I didn't specify the 'absorption amount,' and it exploded several times. It was tough, you know?"
Benjamin casually spoke of something outrageous as if it were a fond memory.
Chris and Cain exchanged glances and sighed.
"How do you determine the [Mana] absorption limit for each magic stone, Elder Brother Ben?"
"When the magic stone's limit is approaching, its color changes from a deep purple to a stronger reddish-purple, and you can see something sparkling inside the magic stone. That state is probably the limit. If the light becomes intense and starts flashing, it's too late. But that light is very beautiful."
Benjamin said, looking far away.
"That sounds thrilling. I want to see that flashing, beautiful light."
Chris, seemingly driven by curiosity, started saying strange things, fidgeting.
"Elder Brother Chris, please don't say such strange things. Calm down. Elder Brother Ben, you don't monitor the limit value by looking at it every time, do you?"
"I'm determining the limit values based on the results of some experiments I conducted. For goblin magic stones, it's 10,000, for Aurcs, it's 50,000, and so on. These numbers aren't absolute, but you can stop it before the light starts to appear."
He rummaged through his usual "Benjamin bag" and took out a small magic stone.
"Cain, do you want to try making this goblin's magic stone absorb [Mana]? With this [Magic Absorber], we can change how much it absorbs."
Again, Benjamin took out the [Magic Absorber] from his "Benjamin Bag," set some settings on it, inserted the magic stone, then threw it to Cain.
Cain caught it, thought for a moment, then reluctantly strapped it on as Benjamin and Chris watched eagerly. A few seconds later, Cain felt that familiar sensation of Mana being drained from his arm with the device attached. The red gem lit up again, just like before.
"Haha, that was a surprise. It filled up to the set amount so quickly. This experiment──getting Cain to pour almost all his Mana──is way too dangerous."
Cain exhaled deeply, thinking, "As I suspected... Benjamin's insanity hasn't changed."
After the sound of a door knocking, Gardy's voice was heard. "Sir Cain, are you in there?"
"Gardy, please come in. I'm here."
"Excuse me. Good to see you're here."
Gardy bowed to Benjamin and Chris then looked relieved when he found Cain.
"It's about time we get the oven fired up, or we won't make it in time. Also, Sir Arthur has been looking for Sir Cain."
"Oh no! I got so caught up I forgot about the time. Sorry, Elder Brother Ben. I'll excuse myself now──I need to make roasted sweet potatoes for the New Year's banquet."
"Yeah, sounds good. Maybe tomorrow for the rest? Be careful not to burn yourself."
Benjamin kindly saw him off.
""Thank you... sorry to trouble you.""
Cain and Gardy left quickly, jogging toward the training ground.
"Thanks, Gardy. We almost wouldn't have finished before New Year's dinner. Let's start the fire and warm up the stones now."
Cain and Gardy expertly lit the fire with practiced hands. Soon, the crackling sound of burning wood filled the air. They kept adding logs, making the fire bigger.
"Alright. Let's leave it like this for a bit. Once the stones warm up, we'll throw in the Satsuma and wait for it to bake. Gardy, I'll get the 'bathhouse' ready. Mind watching the fire for me?"
"I'll be careful. I'll make sure not to rush and fall."
Cain dashed off again, this time heading towards the "bathhouse."
When Cain arrived at the "bathhouse," the maids were just finishing cleaning it and were filling the bath with water.
"Sorry, everyone. I'm late. I'll cast the 'Hot Water' spell right away."
"Sir Cain, thank you for hearing our request this time. There's still time, so there's no need to hurry, is there?"
An experienced maid replied while they worked.
"Nope, it's fine. I still have things I want to do, so I'll do it now. It's a bit cold today, so maybe a warm bath would be nice?" [Hot Water]
"Thank you for your consideration. We would be grateful if you could warm it up."
Cain started pouring hot water into the bath with both hands, making a splashing sound. After a while, steam filled the bathroom, and it grew warm. Then, Cain filled about half of the bath with hot water.
"After that, just add water and adjust it. If it's not enough, I'll be at the training ground, so feel free to come get me."
"Thank you very much."
Cain dashed off again back to the kiln.
When he returned to the kiln, Gardy was just starting to put in the Satsuma.
