Volume 2 Chapter 36 Work at Frontier Count Shield
"Wow! It's so high! You can see the entire town from here!"
"Sir Cain, please don't lean out so far. What if you fall?"
"Huh? Wayne, are you afraid of heights? It's fine!"
Cain didn't listen to Wayne's warning and leaned out from the lookout, observing the Frontier Count Shield territory city.
This is a clock tower and lookout located almost in the center of the Frontier Count Shield territory city. Cain had decided to "pave" the streets in the Frontier Count Shield territory, so he needed to model the town. There was already a fairly detailed map of the city, but to create a 3D model, he needed to see everything. Part of the reason was that he wanted to climb the high clock tower.
The Frontier Count Shield territory city was oval-shaped, and its city walls were higher than those of the Sanroze territory town. With a population of 50,000, the city had organized districts, and those areas had wide, straight roads. However, the unorganized parts had winding streets. Additionally, it seemed that the city had a sewer system, which was a relief as there was no need to create drainage systems like in the Sanroze territory town.

"Welcome back. How was the clock tower, Cain?"
When the inspection team returned to the mansion and went back to their assigned conference room, Lydia called out to them.
"Yes, it was really high, and I was surprised. It was a bit hard to climb, but I'd want to go up every day if I could see that view."
"I'm glad you liked it. If you're afraid of heights, you wouldn't even be able to climb it. I also used to go up sometimes when I was little."
Lydia smiled gently, remembering her childhood.
"I had imagined Mother Lydia as more of a homebody, doing things like reading or knitting. It's quite a surprise to hear she was so active."
"Cain actually rather weak. In reality, he was such an energetic child, much like Alice. That's probably why Alice seems extra cute. Of course, Cain is even cuter."
Lydia was the one embracing Cain, overwhelmed with emotion.
After the parent-child bonding moment, several officials from the City Maintenance Bureau, along with Lydia, Frontier Count Shield, and his steward, began the creation of a scale model of the Frontier Count Shield's domain.
"Alright then, let's start making the model. Feel free to speak up if you have any corrections later. [Create Clay]x lots"
The initially skeptical City Maintenance Bureau officials got excited upon seeing the intricate model made by Cain and started to request detailed modifications. Amidst the astonishment of the Frontier Counts, the model was finally completed after the adjustments.
"Lydia, when I saw the model of Sanroze's town, I was surprised, but there's something particularly touching about the model of my own domain."
"Yes, it's only natural to feel more deeply about a town you've developed yourself."
Listening to Lydia and Frontier Count Shield's conversation, both the officials and the steward couldn't help but shed tears.
Then, they decided which roads to pave with "stones" and the order in which to do it. As it was necessary to restrict the passage of people and carriages for the paving in Sanroze's town, they decided to start the next day. Thus, it was agreed to pave the path from the mansion gate to the entrance in the afternoon.
"Is it okay now? I'm starting. Please step back a bit. [Stone]x[Mana] all set"
With Cain's hands as the starting point, the path in front of the mansion transformed into "cobblestone." Since it was going to happen anyway during lunch, Lydia and Alice had designed it with Aisha's favorite lily pattern.
"It's wonderful! I had no idea it could become so beautiful. And the lily design is just perfect. Thank you, Lydia, Alice."
"We're glad you like it."
Alice bowed politely to Aisha.

After dinner, in the guest room, Frontier Count Shield, Aisha, and Lydia enjoyed tea before bed.
"Lydia, it's reassuring to see Alice and Cain growing up so well-behaved. When Linore passed away, I thought it best to give them up for adoption. I was wrong. I'm sorry."
Frontier Count Shield apologized to Lydia.
"It's alright, Father. Now I understand your concerns. Raising children without blood ties is generally considered difficult. I was fortunate that they're such obedient and good children."
"Still, Alice has great potential, but Cain, he's on another level entirely. Can you protect him, Lydia?"
Aisha sipped her tea, eyes closed in thought.
The adults' strategy session to protect Cain continued late into the night.
