Volume 2 Chapter 45 Let’s Go Buy It Tomorrow
At dinner, the announcement of Cain's house name was made. Aisha's joy at hearing the name was striking. Apparently, the name "Shamrock" was the name of her family line that had ended. It was her uncle's family, and she used to play with them a lot when she was little, but they all died from a plague. The Shamrock family was under the Shield family, who held the name. They added "Mr." to Shamrock, linking it to the Sanroze family, they explained.
Cain liked it because "Shamrock" is a 3-leaf clover in English and related to the road he was working on. Alice looked a little lonely, but smiled and said, "Congratulations."
Ah, yes, the reward for being a knight was 10 gold coins a month, 120 a year. He could manage on his own, but it's tough with Barvish. He'll probably have to pay for the Sanroze family's stay, too. But, he'll get 1/10th of the fee for Cain's work, so if he works hard as usual, maybe it'll be okay? He decided to consult Luke and Lydia, including Barvish, when he gets back.
"Elder Sister Alice, what were you doing with Grandmother today?"
I asked because she was smiling more than usual today.
"Today, I went shopping with Father for souvenirs for his friends. There were so many cute things, I couldn't decide! And I bought you a cool quill pen, Cain!"
She happily told him all about what happened today.
After all, the town in the Sanroze territory is different in size, and there's more trade, so there are a lot of different things, and she said it was fun. Certainly, he saw ingredients in the market street that weren't available in the Sanroze territory town. There were also many unusual grains and spices. He saw things like corn and cinnamon.
"Thank you very much, I'll treasure it. So, did you buy that hair ornament today too? It's very cute."
Tonight, her hair was tied in a ponytail, secured with a scrunchie-like hair tie. It was a slightly thick cord, resembling a braid, with shiny silver threads that sparkled.
"Thank you. I found it at a small shop. The silver threads sparkle, and I immediately loved it. I bought a matching golden one for Mother Lydia."
She spoke happily, shaking her head left and right to show it off. While staying in Margrave Shield's territory, they hadn't spent much time together, so Alice was relieved to see her looking well.
"Cain, did you buy any souvenirs for your father? What about Randolph or Gardy?"
"Well, I haven't bought anything yet..."
"Well, we still have tomorrow. I'm sure you'll find something. Should I help you choose?"
She suggested with a slightly worried tone. But she remembered that Cain had plans with Aisha tomorrow.
"It's fine, I'll go with Barvish to look for something. Elder Sister Alice, please enjoy your last day with Grandmother. Thank you."
Now, I need to talk with Barvish later about where to go tomorrow. Since there's no specific goal, maybe we'll just search the market street for something?
After dinner, they had their usual post-meal tea and then returned to their room. Now, sitting on the bed, she was discussing tomorrow's shopping with Barvish. Barvish, naturally, had no familiarity with this territory, as he had only arrived after becoming a slave. Since Margrave Shield provided everything he needed, the only thing missing was a weapon. They decided to visit a weapons shop or the Adventurers' Guild. Also, since she needed ingredients, they planned to check out the market street.
After Barvish returned to his room, it was finally time to read. She cast [light] magic on the bed and opened "The Book of the Great Sage." The book had a rugged leather cover, with nothing written on the front. When she turned the cover, the only thing written inside was "Memoir."
The characters written on it are not Japanese like the "Book of the Hero", but a kind of [magic] character, but it is unclear. Cain was able to decipher it without difficulty thanks to his [Otherworld Language Understanding] [skill]. As it says "Notes", it seems to be a book of random thoughts, and there is no table of contents and the contents are diverse.
What caught his interest were many interesting things such as thoughts on [daily magic] and [composite magic]. Among them, there was a title that was '[Mana] reduction when using [magic]' and He couldn't believe his eyes. [Mana] reduction is what Cain has been worrying about the most recently, so he started reading intently, hoping to get some hints.
