Volume 2 Chapter 6 Let's Learn Daily Magic

While they built models for fort and wall upgrades and traded improvement ideas, lunchtime crept up on them.

When the 4 headed to the dining hall, Lydia and Alice were already seated, waiting for them.

"Did we keep you waiting, Lydia, Alice?"

"No, we just arrived too. Chris will be back from hunting this evening, so it'll be just the 6 of us."

Once Luke and the others sat down, the maids appeared and began placing lunch on the table.

Today's meal: sandwiches stuffed with ham and spinach, and a bowl of soup.

The ham was a bit too salty and tough, and the bread wasn't soft, but Cain liked it a lot.

 Cain's thoughts drifted.

He loved these sandwiches, but started to miss tuna sandwiches.

Was there even a sea in this country?

He didn't notice Lydia had started talking to him.

 "Cain, Cain, hey Cain?"

"...Ah! Yes! Sorry, I was off in my head. What is it, Mother Lydia?"

"Honestly, just like Luke with that absent face. So, what are you doing this afternoon? If it's just training, go with Alice and pick up your travel gear instead."

Last month, they measured Cain for travel clothes to wear on the trip to the Shield Frontier Count's domain.

The outfit was finally ready, and he needed to go pick it up and have it tailored one last time.

"Okay, I'll go with Elder Sister Alice. Also, can I stop by the church on the way back to learn [daily magic]?"

Cain wanted to ask Lydia if he could go to the church to learn [Hot Water], which Benjamin had told him about.

 "It's fine, right, Luke?"

"I think it's fine. But what do you want to learn?"

 Luke checked with Cain.

"I want to learn the [Hot Water] magic. Elder Brother Ben and I are planning a magic tool and I need it for that. Is it okay, Father? I want to use the allowance I got from doing the cobblestone job."

"If you tell me what kind of magic tool you're making, I'll give you permission."

"Um, I wasn't sure if I could pull it off yet, so I wanted to surprise everyone if it worked. But I promised to talk to Father first. I need it to build a bathhouse."

""Bathhouse...? You mean, like that place where you soak in hot water?""

 "Yes."

Luke and Lydia both chimed in with that question, so Cain nodded.

"Cain, do you mean the kind of bathhouse where people fill it up with hot water and go in?" "Y-Yes, that's right."

Lydia leaned in, eyes shining, and Cain squeaked his answer a bit higher than usual.

"Got it. I'll cover the cost, so make sure you remember how to build it. But promise me I get to use it first."

Lydia gave her permission, looking almost ridiculously happy about it.

Luke seemed a little down, but Cain decided to just ignore it.

After lunch, Cain rode in the carriage with Alice, heading to the clothing shop.

"It's been a long time since we went out together, Elder Sister Alice."

"You're right, Cain. You've been busy training and never had time to play. I was stuck with studying too."

"Elder Sister Alice, you're going to college next year. I'll miss you."

Cain murmured, looking down a little.

"What are you saying? You'll be at the academy in just 2 years yourself, so we'll meet right away. Plus, I plan to come home every year anyway."

Alice took the chance to give her cute little brother a bunch of head pats.

Soon after, the carriage pulled up in front of the clothing shop.

The coachman opened the door and they both stepped out together.

"Welcome, Lady Alice, Sir Cain. We've been expecting you."

The owner of the clothing shop greeted them with a gentle smile.

For about an hour, Cain and Alice changed in and out of outfits, over and over, until the fitting was finally finished.

By the end, both Cain and Alice were totally worn out.

"Alright! Let's hurry to the church and get your daily magic blessing. After that, we're going for tea at the café I went to with Mother Lydia."

Alice raised her voice a little, as if trying to pep herself up for what's next.

The church was super close to the clothing shop, so they walked there together.

People were lined up at the church, some to pray and others to be healed of their wounds.

When Alice and Cain noticed, they called out and greeted them.

The two replied with smiles as they were greeted, and then the acolyte came to welcome them.

"Lady Alice, Sir Cain, welcome. Please, come in."

Alice and Cain followed the acolyte as they entered the church.
