Volume 3 Chapter 18 Town Wall Expansion IV
Outside the gates of Sanroze, a total of 20 workers, led by Cain and dressed in work clothes, gazed at the fallow wheat fields stretching beyond the town wall and the grasslands farther out.
A man stepped forward from the group, climbed onto a wooden crate placed in front of them, and began to speak.
"Good morning. Today marks the start of the new town area's construction. Since the work will be outside the town wall, always move and work in groups of four. Now, I'd like to hear a few words from our lord."
Luke took his turn on the crate, scanned the crowd, and began to speak.
"Finally, after years of preparation, construction of the new town begins. Once this new area is complete, Sanroze will surely thrive and grow richer. No, I *will* make it richer! Today is the first step. I want all of you to strive for something we can be proud of for generations. I'm counting on you!"
"""Yes!"""
The group responded in unison to Luke's declaration.
After the speech, work began as teams divided their tasks. First, the survey team started marking lines at the construction site for the town wall. Along these lines, Cain was scheduled to build a stone wall 6 meters wide and 30 meters high, a project expected to take about a month.
Since the survey team would take considerable time to finish today's markings, Cain began performing [Mana Circulation] while observing the work from the waiting area.
(Even with the [Infinite Mana] skill, I can't release infinite Mana at once. I need to be careful with [Mana Circulation] or I'll collapse like last time.)
Cain slowly increased the amount and concentration of [Mana Circulation] as he breathed.
* * *
About an hour later, the survey team reported they'd finished today's markings. Having performed [Mana Circulation] the entire hour, Cain had gathered a significant concentration and amount of Mana. However, this left him moving slowly, and the journey took time.
It took about 30 minutes to reach the starting point of the new town wall. In hindsight, Cain wondered if it would've been better to have Gardy or Baldisht carry him there.
"Alright, I'll begin. Everyone, please step back."
Cain called out to the nearby workers and survey team. They moved to designated positions, prepared for the unlikely event of a collapse.
Cain slowly placed both hands on the ground. Along the survey team's marked line, he began flowing Mana. It reached a pole 200 meters ahead.
Cain sensed the Mana had reached the pole and started imagining the town wall's construction. A semi-transparent wall appeared before his eyes. Thanks to recent visualization training, he could now see the wall before activating the spell.
"Alright... manifest according to my will! [Stone Wall]!"
As Cain activated the spell, the wall rose along the Mana's path. After releasing all the Mana refined by [Mana Circulation], a 200-meter-long town wall stood complete.
"""Oh!"""
Exclamations of admiration rose from the other workers.
"Phew, was that a success? Please check for me."
Cain stood up and asked the survey team for confirmation.
"Sir Cain, are you okay? Are you feeling unwell?"
Barvish rushed over to Cain and asked.
"I'm fine. My head isn't dizzy, and I don't feel any Mana pain."
Cain answered, clasping and unclasping his hands.
"Sir Cain, this is incredible. To create such a large town wall in an instant..."
Gardy gazed at the new wall, his voice filled with awe.
"Thanks, Gardy. But a hero or sage could probably build it all at once, right? I still have a lot to work on."
"That's... you don't have to be so modest..."
Barvish muttered with a wry smile.
The survey team ran up to Cain.
"Sir Cain, reporting in. The new town wall was built according to the survey lines with no issues."
"Thank you for the confirmation. I'm glad it was a success."
Cain replied with a satisfied, slight smile.
And so, the town wall expansion began.
