Volume 3 Chapter 2 Husband and Wife Day II
When the kitchen door opened, the sweet smell in the corridor grew stronger, filling the entire kitchen with a delightful aroma.
"Oh, Young Master Cain. Do you need something?"
"Yeah, I came to ask you to make something. What is that sweet smell? Chef Lloyd, what are you making?"
Cain asked Lloyd while sniffing the air loudly.
"Ah, I'm making a test batch of baked goods. Thanks to Lady Lydia, I got new ingredients like milk and butter. I've been experimenting whenever I have time. That milk is incredibly versatile. New recipes keep coming to mind."
Chef Lloyd excitedly talked about how amazing the milk was.
"Chef! It's about time!"
"Yeah, I'm coming. Don't open it yet! Young Master Cain, the test products are ready. Why not try a sample?"
"Of course! I couldn't wait to taste it after smelling that sweet aroma."
Cain agreed with a big smile. At the kitchen table, the cooks held plates and waited for the test samples.
"Alright!"
With that shout, Lloyd took out a slightly larger, deep frying pan from the oven. Immediately, the kitchen filled with an even sweeter smell. A golden, soft-looking, puffy treat, overflowing from the pan, was carried to the table.
Lloyd cut into it with a knife, which sank easily, showing its softness. It was divided into pieces for everyone and placed on plates.
"Alright, let's taste it."
"Yes!"
Cain thought, "Itadakimasu," in his mind, then cut small pieces with a fork and ate.
"Ohh, it's delicious!!!"
"Yeah, we made it successfully. But maybe it's a little too sweet. Would honey go well on it?"
Lloyd, satisfied with everyone's reaction, sampled the food.
(Chef Lloyd is amazing! He made this just by getting milk. I want him to show me this recipe and make the finished product, and I want him to make even more delicious things!)
"Chef Lloyd!"
"Yes, Young Master Cain. Did you like it?"
"Of course! It was the best! But, should we evolve it further?"
Cain handed him the wooden board with the recipe.
"What is this? ...Wha, what is this?"
Lloyd looked puzzled as he received it. He checked the contents. His cheerful expression hardened. His face quickly changed to one that couldn't hide his excitement.
"Young Master Cain, what is this!? It's the recipe for that, right?"
"Yes, that's right. The 'Hero's Recipe'. But Chef Lloyd is amazing. He made something incredible immediately after getting milk. I was surprised."
"No, no, I still have a long way to go. My goal is to create dishes that no one has made yet. But this looks delicious just by looking at the recipe. I will try making it tomorrow."
"Okay, please do. But I have one request, blah, blah, blah."
Cain whispered to Lloyd.
Chef Lloyd smiled a very happy smile.
"That's a good idea. I want to give the same thing to my wife."
Then, the two of them sat at the edge of the table and discussed various things.

Cain went to Luke's office after dinner. He knocked on the door as usual. Today, Luke's voice answered from inside.
(Huh?? That's right, Randolph wasn't here.)
"Father, I am sorry to have kept you waiting. I have come to report on the matter you requested."
Luke's expression softened as he piled up a bundle of parchment on his desk. Luke was doing his work.
"Oh, I've been waiting! I'm sorry, it seems I've kept you waiting for a while."
"No, no, that's not the case."
(Oh no, I thought of it right away, but I can't say I was late because I was reading "The Book of the Great Sage".)
"So, what should I give Lydia as a present?"
"Yes, since Mother Lydia loves sweet treats, Chef Lloyd and I will collaborate to make a cake for her."
"A cake? With Chef Lloyd and sweets? I've only ever cooked meat over a campfire. Can I make something edible?"
"Don't worry, Chef Lloyd and I will be there to help. We'll make sure to delight Mother Lydia!"
The two shook hands firmly, resolving to make Lydia happy.
