Volume 3 Chapter 5 Husband and Wife Day V
By the time Luke finished his cake, more than half of the participants had also completed theirs. They showed each other their creations, commenting on the appearance.
"Alright, everyone. Let's move to the next step. We'll make special bags to give the cakes as they are. Please use the leaves at the end of each workbench. Each person, use 3 sheets."
The young chef held a slightly wider leaf, about 40cm, compared to the bamboo grass they would use next. He waved it as he explained.
"Use these 3 sheets to make a small bag by stacking them slightly. Then, secure it with a string on top of the cake."
The young head chef demonstrated while explaining.
Luke also made a bag using the leaves as instructed, but struggled to tie it with the string. His sturdy, large hands found it difficult.
"Father, shall I help?"
"Cain, thank you. But I'll take that feeling. I want to do it myself till the end, so I can put more care into it."
Luke spoke shyly, hiding his red face, while looking at the cake.
(Father, you're so cool!)
"Well, please do your best."
Cain cheered on Luke, who was working hard.

"Everyone, good job. I think you're tired after the unfamiliar work, but I hope you also feel grateful to your spouse or partner. Now, while cleaning up, let's try tasting what we've made. Since this is a taste test, please forgive some appearance flaws."
The young chef explained, and the leftover slices from cutting out plain cakes on the tray were handed to the participants.
"Did everyone get their plate? If so, please add the remaining whipped cream and leftover fruits on the plate. Are you done?"
Participants placed the remaining whipped cream and leftover fruits onto wooden bowls. Luke and others made their own cakes or similar treats.
"Here you go. ...How is it?"
"Delicious!"
"Sweet!"
"First time trying it!"
Various impressions could be heard from each work table. Luke took a bite, his eyes widening, and looked at Cain.
"Cain, this is amazing! Lydia will definitely like it too! Thank you!"
"No, no, I just shared the 'Hero's recipe.' The truly amazing one is Chef Lloyd."
Luke looked at Chef Lloyd, who had been supporting his work nearby.
"Thank you, Lloyd. This year, I'm sure Lydia will be even happier than last year!"
"Sir Luke, I'm really glad I could help. But thanks to Sir Luke and Young Master Cain, I think all the participants feel the same way."
Chef Lloyd shifted his gaze to the participants. The participants had started looking at Luke and were bowing their heads.
"Thank you, Master and Sir Cain."
The participants conveyed their thanks.
"I'm happy everyone is enjoying it. I hope you all have a pleasant Couple's Day tonight."
"Yes!"
(Phew, I'm glad it went well. I hope this makes our family harmonious.)
The taste-testing event ended, and after cleaning up, the cake-making was finished. The participants carefully carried their homemade cakes and went home.
"Gardy! Sorry I couldn't help. Did it turn out well?"
Cain called out to Gardy, who had participated in making the cake.
"Oh, Sir Cain. Yes, for the parts I couldn't do with one hand, I got help from other participants and chefs. It might not look perfect, but I think it will be well-received."
Gardy smiled brightly.
"Yeah, Noel will definitely like it too!"
Cain smiled back at Gardy's smile.

After dinner, Cain returned to his room. Since it was Couple's Day, both Luke and Lydia had returned to their rooms early, and most of the mansion's staff had gone home early as well. The night was quite cold, but Cain opened the window to confirm the moon floating in the night sky. After gazing at the moon for a while, he moved a side table next to the bed and quietly set the cake he had made on it.
"Linore Mother, Happy Couple's Day. I made this cake with gratitude, so please enjoy it."
Though it was unclear if the concept of a "shadow meal" existed in this world, Cain did it as a gesture of his feelings.
"Linore Mother, this year, Elder Sister Alice went to Knight Academy, so it's a bit lonely. But I know she's also working hard and enduring loneliness, so I'll do my best too. After all, we're both your children."
After gazing at the moon for a while longer, Cain closed the window. Then, he ate the cake, brushed his teeth, and went to bed.
(It's okay to eat before bed since I'm still a kid, right?)

The next morning, Cain finished his daily training and headed to the dining hall. Lydia was already seated at the table with a smile. Cain approached her and greeted her.
"Good morning, Mother Lydia!"
"Oh, good morning, Cain. You're working hard every day. I'm proud to have you as my son."
Lydia said, then gently hugged Cain and whispered in his ear.
"Cain, thank you. The cake was really delicious. It was filled with Luke's feelings too."
"I'm so glad you enjoyed it."
(Father, it seems to have gone well. Mother Lydia's smile is back, and she looks even more radiant than usual. I'll keep working hard to bring more smiles to everyone!)
While being hugged by Lydia, Cain reaffirmed his determination in his heart.
