Volume 5 Chapter 44 Monster, Two People
The final showdown between the Demon King and the Hero has begun.
Demon King Dostoevsky attempts to escape, but thanks to Act's foresight, he's trapped within the barrier.
"THERE'S NO ESCAPE LEFT FOR YOU, DOSTOEVSKY!"
One arm gone, his left eye crushed, and his body battered...
Yet Great Hero Lawrence wore a smile that seemed brighter than usual.
His eyes shone with an intensity like a beacon of hope.
"This BARRIER will hold us until one of us is completely DEAD! That's the barrier Eli constructed!"
"A-are you... OUT OF YOUR MIND? We can't get out until we die, you know?"
"INDEED! But that doesn't concern me!"
With just one arm, he gripped his greatsword tightly and aimed its tip at the Demon King.
"I'm here to SETTLE EVERYTHING, once and for all!"
Dostoevsky felt a chill of fear creeping in.
There was something akin to madness surging in Lawrence.
"You... MONSTER..."
Even knowing he couldn't escape until he died, Lawrence was still smiling.
But Lawrence stood tall, nodding firmly.
"YES... I AM a monster! A monster without my master or my friends. And without YOU, the Demon King!"
Lawrence hoisted his greatsword high.
"I'm NOT ALONE. Everyone's here with me──even you! That's why I can be a HERO! A monster that's become a Hero because of it!"
Lawrence understood.
If Act hadn't taken him in as a child...
He might have used this power for all the wrong reasons and ended up as a Demon King himself.
It was Act Age that guided him not to become a monster, but a Hero...
Without a doubt, it was thanks to them.
With comrades fighting for humanity and enemies to face, he finally had the chance to be a true Hero.
"I'm GRATEFUL for everything. Even you, Dostoevsky. That's why...!"
Lawrence crouched, gathering his strength.
"I will UTTERLY ANNIHILATE YOU! As the same kind of MONSTER!"
"Ugh, AAAAAHHHHH!"
As Lawrence charged at him, greatsword in hand... the Demon King was gripped by true terror.
