Volume 5 Chapter 48 The Master's Return

Volume 5 Chapter 48 The Master's Return

Great Hero Lawrence and his party had just wiped out Demon King Dostoevsky.

Their victory was absolute... but it came at a price.

Every single one of them was wrecked──so battered, they couldn't even stand.

The Far East hero party, led by Suigetsu, was tending to their wounds──patching them up as best they could.

"My APOLOGIES, SIR LAWRENCE, SIR ULGAR! I've done all I CAN, but those WOUNDS of yours... they just won't HEAL, no matter what I TRY."

Ulgar had lost his right arm.

Lawrence had it even worse: one leg gone, nerves in both arms fried.

He couldn't move them at all.

The Demon King's curse was too strong──even Luna, the world's greatest healer, couldn't do a thing.

But neither Lawrence nor Ulgar seemed to care one bit.

"Not a PROBLEM! We're still ALIVE, aren't WE?"

"EXACTLY. I'd trade a RIGHT arm for my LIFE any DAY."

 Missing parts?

No big deal──they'd just ask their engineers to craft them some new arms and legs.

 "First AID'S all DONE!"

 "Head HOME, you IDIOTS!"

That was Higami, the Far East leader, barking at them to move out.

But not a single one of them budged.

 "What's the HOLD-UP?"

 "We're WAITING! There's SOMEONE we're WAITING for!"

 "WAITING? For WHO...?"

 "They're HERE!!!!"

Lawrence lifted his gaze to the sky.

A massive pitch-black dragon was slowly descending toward them.

 "Lady VIVRE! That means──"

 "GUILDMASTER...!!!"

Riding on Vivre's back, Act Age and the maid Frederica were coming in for a landing.

Lawrence and the whole hero party broke into huge grins.

Of course──if it was their master, she'd find them no matter where they were.

She'd be the first to come running, faster than anyone else.

 That's why they stayed put.

That's why none of them had moved.

Every one of them was smiling.

They'd finally paid back the person who raised them, who shaped their talents, who never gave up on them──finally, they'd made their master proud.

 "GUILDMASTER! GUILDMASTER! GUILDMASTER!"

Vivre touched down.

Lawrence and the others clung to Act, who was still strapped to their backs.

He... gave them that usual, infuriating smirk... as he surveyed the scene.

 And then...

 He smiled.

 "Well DONE, you LOT!"

...It was a smile they rarely saw, the one the Villainous Guildmaster reserved for moments like these.

Proof of a truly monumental victory...

Lawrence and the others felt it then, a wave of relief and joy washing over them, and tears streamed down their faces.

 ...And so,

The long-standing conspiracy of the Transcendent was shattered, thanks to the Villainous Guildmaster and his comrades.
