Volume 6 Chapter 2 Extra - The Hardships of a Novice Guildmaster

Volume 6 Chapter 2 Extra - The Hardships of a Novice Guildmaster

The Gem of Heavenly Gift, bestowed upon Henrietta, the daughter of Act.

She leaves the mansion and heads toward the Guildhall.

 "Ah, Guildmaster! Good morning!"

 "Hmm, Niina. Good morning."

 The rookie receptionist, Niina Invoke.

She's the younger sister of the S-Rank Adventurer in this Guild...

 But she doesn't know that.

 A bright smile.

With her voluptuous figure, she's quite popular among the Guild members.

(If I were as... well-endowed as she is, maybe they wouldn't look down on me so much...)

 "What's wrong, Guildmaster?"

 Niina tilts her head, confused.

 "Nothing. Where's [Kilt]?"

"Big brother took a day off... ah, there he is!"

She turns around, and there he is──a black-haired man, looking completely out of it.

 His name is Kilt Invoke.

He works for the Guild here, at Gem of Heavenly Gift.

 "...Niina. You're early. Real early."

Kilt mumbles, his voice barely above a whisper.

...No one in the Guild, not even Niina, knows that he's actually an S-Rank Adventurer.

"Kilt, could I talk to you for a moment? There's something I need to discuss."

He has a job that only he can do.

That's what she wanted to talk about.

 But...

 "...Nah, can't do it."

 "What?!"

 "...It's still before opening hours..."

 True.

 The Guild isn't open yet.

But still, if he's here early, why not just get it over with?

"...I don't want to work outside of hours."

 "Ughhh..."

 She felt like crying.

Why are all these S-Rank Adventurers so weird?

 Henrietta felt like giving up.

She doesn't show it, but she's actually pretty sensitive.

"Ugh! Big brother! Stop being so stingy!"

Niina pouts, angrily slapping her brother's shoulder.

"Even if it's before opening, it's only 15 minutes, right? What's the big deal? Just 15 minutes!"

"...Fine. If you're saying so, Niina."

Henrietta couldn't help but let out a quiet sigh of relief──finally, she could breathe again.

Honestly, if I'd begged again and he still turned me down, I probably would've burst into tears right there.

"Now then, Kilt. Come with me."

 "...Yes, ma'am."

Silently thanking Niina in her heart, Henrietta led Kilt down the hall to the Guildmaster's office.

As soon as they sat at the table, she cleared her throat with an over-the-top "ahem."

"Kilt Invoke. ...No, let me address you properly──the Black-Silver Summoner."

At the Gem of Heavenly Gift, there were only a handful of S-Rank Adventurers.

 Kilt was one of them.

 By day, a Guild staffer.

But under the surface──an S-Rank Adventurer, living a double life.

"Word is, a pack of demon stragglers is making trouble in the neighboring kingdom. That's where you come in, Black-Silver. Head over there, and clean up the mess!"

 Nailed it.

Like father, like daughter──pretty cool delivery, right?

 But then...

 "...No. I refuse."

 "Huh? Wh──what?! N-no way! Why?!"

Henrietta slipped and totally dropped her Guildmaster persona.

Kilt answered her, as deadpan as ever.

"...If I go on assignment, then Niina... she'd be all alone. So, no. I won't go."

 This Black-Silver Summoner?

 Hardcore siscon, through and through.

Nothing means more to him than time with his sister.

That's why he never works overtime.

And he always turns down business trips.

He just refuses to spend even a day apart from his sister.

"C'mon, Kilt! I'm begging you! Erial and Leaf──they're both out on missions! You're the only one left who can handle this!"

 Erial and Leaf.

 Both S-Rank Adventurers, ridiculously strong.

Problem is, both of them were currently off handling other jobs.

 "...Still no."

 "Don't do this to me...!"

"...If you can't handle it, just say so."

"That's not an option! We're Gem of Heavenly Gift──the greatest Adventurers Guild in the world! Our whole rep is that we tackle the impossible──bam! No problem, all in a day's work──or, hey, wait! Kilt! Please come back, I'm begging you!"

Henrietta clung to Kilt's leg for dear life.

With nobody else around, she'd totally dropped her formal act.

Especially around the Black-Silver, since he kept his real identity hidden──and honestly, it's not like he cared about anyone but his sister anyway──there was really no point pretending with him.

"Please! I'm counting on you! I'll make it worth your while, okay?!"

 "...Compensation."

 Alright!

 Stirring within him.

If he gets the money, he can make his sister happy, that's for sure.

"All right then! How about it?!"

 "...Understood."

 Yes!

Henrietta takes a mental victory pose.

 "Here are the details."

She hands the scroll to Kilt.

 It's now.

"Guildmaster~. I've brought your tea... oh! Ahh! The Black Silver Summoner!"

 Niina entered the room.

Sensing her approach, Kilt donned his black coat and silver mask in an instant.

Only someone with his unique power could pull off such a quick change.

"Long time no see, Mr. Black Silver. What brings you here?"

 "...Work."

 "I see! Good luck then!"

 *Waves energetically!*

 Niina waves her hand.

In her eyes, there's a clear shimmer of admiration.

No hiding it──Niina is a fan of Black Silver.

...What she doesn't know is that he's actually her real brother.

"Where did Mr. Black Silver go?"

 "To the neighboring country."

"Huh! Even though you turn down all overseas assignments, you took this one!"

"Heh, well, it's not like every day the Guildmaster herself makes a request."

"Wow! That's amazing. But really, why do you turn down overseas assignments, Mr. Black Silver?"

He swallows the words, "It's because you're here."

Well, it's been a struggle, but Henrietta has been doing her best.
