Volume 23 Chapter 13 Rescue Continuation

"Attacking His Excellency Viscount Eugene's villa like this, what's the Levy merchant guild thinking? We were trying to solve this peacefully with an arrest. Are you all planning a rebellion?"

With a sword pointed at him, Brook raised both hands and glared at Reginald.

"What are you talking about? His Excellency Viscount Eugene is connected to the Marquis Prentis family and took over the Margrave family. He's the traitor. We're just resisting him. Viscount Parker already knows about this. If you want answers, ask His Highness Prince Theodore."

Reginald replied sharply. The man next to him, holding a longbow, looked surprised and stared at Brook. A small, white, shield-shaped pendant swung on his chest.

He was likely from the mercenary group, Shining Shield.

 "Stop talking nonsense, criminal!"

Brook shot back, but his voice shook a little, like he was nervous.

Al checked his shoulder, feeling some pain but it seemed okay. He glanced at Orson.

Orson also looked fine, with no serious injuries. He grimaced but shook his head lightly and gestured he was okay. The two men with Reginald started tying up the three who surrendered, using ropes from Orson.

 "Mr. Reginald, where's Guildmaster Levy?"

At Al's question, Reginald smiled and nodded.

"He's inside. We're trying to unlock the door. It should open soon. Someone skilled is working on it."

The hole Al made was in the wall of the room where the Levy guild's mercenaries were held. Giving them weapons and lockpicking tools was the best way to strengthen their fight.

Originally, Al planned to make another hole in Guildmaster Levy's room, but they were attacked first. Avoiding magic if possible was better.

 "Hey, it's open!"

A loud voice came from the mansion. Did they use a key, or did they rescue Guildmaster Levy?

After disarming and tying up the three who surrendered, Reginald went to check on Guildmaster Levy and returned to the hole he'd made earlier.

Reginald left the tied-up men with the two who arrived, and Al and Orson followed.

Beyond the hole was a room with exposed stone walls, floor, and ceiling. It smelled bad, with a bucket and straw scattered around.

Just looking at it showed how the mercenaries were treated. At the open iron-grated door on the west side was a man Al knew.

He was from the Levy guild's mercenary group. Inside, from the left corridor, fighting sounds could be heard.

"Reginald, are Al and Orson okay──and Al?! And Orson too. I'm so glad. Thanks for coming."

He smiled happily at Al and Orson.

 "How's it going here?"

When Reginald asked, the man shook his head.

"The key to the president's room should open soon. Once it does, I'll send them here. If you're done, go to the building's entrance! We're stuck behind these bars. The president's safety comes first, so I can't send anyone your way."

"Got it. Brook's already surrendered. Tell everyone. I'll go around outside. Al and Orson, help if you can. No need for spells if you don't want to."

Reginald said, then left through the hole again. Al and Orson followed. Their injuries hurt a bit, but they'd manage.

Reginald forced open the building's door. Inside was a small space, like Guildmaster Levy described.

About five men were fighting the Levy guild's mercenaries across an iron-barred door. When the door suddenly opened, they looked at Reginald in shock.

"Give up. Brook's already tied up."

 "Ridiculous."

The five men, looking very angry, pushed aside the mercenaries and attacked Reginald.

Reginald stepped inside, blocking the leader's weapon with his sword. Then, Orson entered.

His injured left arm meant he couldn't use his spear, so he used a sword instead. Even so, he dodged attacks well and fought back. In this small room, it might be better.

Reginald and Orson faced five opponents. Should he help with a spell? While Al hesitated, Reginald slashed an enemy's arm. The enemy dropped their weapon.

Reginald kicked the man toward another on the left. The man fell, and the one who fell tried to dodge. Orson quickly slashed him down.

"Ugh!" the man cried as he fell on his back.
