Volume 23 Chapter 14 Viscount Morgan And The Fitzs
Guildmaster Levy hesitated slightly at Viscount Morgan's words but eventually nodded slowly.
"As expected of Your Excellency Viscount Morgan. I believe your thoughts are on the right track. Additionally, I suspect there's some influence from Marquis Prentis's family, who recently expelled the royal family in the Tempest Kingdom. However, I haven't confirmed this yet..."
Viscount Morgan nodded thoughtfully at Guildmaster Levy's words.
"I see. So Eugene has fallen this far? Well, if that's the case, his bold actions make sense. Hiring mercenaries costs money. I wondered how they were funding it, but it seems Marquis Prentis's family is behind it. For them, causing chaos behind the expeditionary force would be cheap. Perhaps they lured Eugene with money and the promise of the Margrave's position. Foolish of him."
Al glanced at Reginald while listening to the conversation beside him. Should he show the box Mage Whitton from Marquis Prentis's family was holding and reveal the letter inside?
However, Reginald shook his head slightly. Is the idea to keep this information from Viscount Morgan and only share it with Viscount Parker?
Or is it that they won't share more sensitive details until they're sure? He doesn't quite understand the subtlety there.
Still, Guildmaster Levy is a wealthy merchant who built his fortune in one generation, and Reginald has worked with him all along. It's best to leave it to them.
"What about the movements of other influential Viscount families under the Margrave's command? You're from Border City Lester, right? Viscount Lester has been supposedly in hiding due to illness, but is he supporting Eugene?"
Guildmaster Levy gave a quick signal with his eyes to Reginald. Reginald nodded faintly and stepped forward.
"In Border City Lester, there was a move to shut down our merchant guild's main store and Mr. Eric's mansion under Viscount Eugene's orders. Given that, it's likely Viscount Lester is siding with him. Conversely, in Border City Parker, we've received kind words from His Excellency Viscount Parker himself to protect our merchant guild. According to Viscount Parker, this situation will be reported to His Highness Theodore, who is currently on campaign in the Tempest Kingdom. No other movements are known at this time."
"Hmm, I see. Parker is a good man. Understood. What's the current situation?"
Viscount Morgan gazed intently at Reginald, who continued speaking, enduring the pressure while keeping his head bowed.
"The situation in the capital hasn't changed since the Margrave fell. Also, I've confirmed that two messengers left here before dawn, headed for the capital. Whether they're seeking reports or requesting reinforcements is unknown."
Viscount Morgan looked around.
"Whose fortress is this? The carriage window was closed, so I have no idea. It's not far from the capital, right?"
"Yes. It's a villa belonging to Viscount Eugene, about 20 kilometers west of the capital Rain... but its structure is like a fortress. Previously, in Viscount Parker's territory, Marquis Prentis's mage tried to build a supply base. This might be something similar."
Viscount Morgan pondered, resting his hand on his chin.
"Eugene—no, the Marquis Prentis family—is making quite a bit of preparation, huh. Well then, we should hurry back to the territory. I'd like to thank you, but for now, this is the situation. Sorry, but please leave everything until it settles down. Instead, when the time comes, I'll go all out, so look forward to it. By the way, what will you do?"
Guildmaster Levy bowed his head.
"We'll move to Parker once more. Then we'll organize the information again and contact you."
"Understood. Please, I ask for your favor. What happens to the Margrave family depends on this move."
While Reginald spoke, Brenda reported something to Guildmaster Levy, who nodded in response.
"It seems the horse-drawn carriages and riding horses are still in the coach house. It may be cramped, but with three carriages and five horses, everyone should be able to ride. Please use them."
"That's helpful."
Following Guildmaster Levy's recommendation, Viscount Morgan and the major landowners in the nearby area began to split into groups, using the three carriages and five horses pulled by the Levy Merchant Guild members.
The attendants clearly seemed inexperienced, but there was no choice but to have them do their best. Conversely, those riding appeared to have upright postures and seemed quite skillful.
They might have experience as knights.
"How far will His Excellency Viscount Morgan move?"
Reginald asked Guildmaster Levy in a quiet voice, so Viscount Morgan couldn't hear. Guildmaster Levy made a slightly sour face and tilted his head.
"I don't understand. Of course, I don't think he would ally with Viscount Eugene, but when it comes to actively moving the knight order, it would be difficult. The best we can do is contact the kingdom and strengthen our defenses. That alone would be appreciated, but any significant action will likely have to wait for reinforcements from the kingdom. However, right now, His Highness Theodore's Third Knight Order is already deployed to Tempest. It will take time to mobilize other knight orders."
"So, in the end, it all depends on the results of His Highness Theodore's Tempest expedition, does it?"
Guildmaster Levy nodded.
So that's the case. Al thought that by gathering evidence of the rebellion and contacting the kingdom, the kingdom's knight order would come and punish Viscount Eugene and his men...
He's worried about Big Brother Gustave and the others. But still, he doesn't think he'd be of any help if he went to war alone. What should he do?
"Al, you seem a bit reluctant."
Noticing something from Al's expression, Guildmaster Levy smiled cheerfully.
"Yes... because..."
"Unfortunately, the Margrave family's knight order, even though half of them are on an expedition, still has considerable forces. The Viscount's family won't be able to match them. Rather, well, it's hard to discuss here. Edmund is over there, so let's talk there. Reginald, make sure to act properly until His Excellency Viscount Morgan departs. Don't forget to pack food and water in the carriage."
"Yes."
Leaving the scene to Reginald, Guildmaster Levy headed toward the front of the villa. Brenda followed him.
Al also hurriedly tried to chase after them, but as he was about to leave, he noticed familiar figures coming out of the building where Viscount Morgan and the others had just emerged: Fitz, Marcus, and Lucas.
"Mr. Fitz, Sir Marcus, Sir Lucas."
Al quickly rushed over and called out to them.
"Oh, Al. Did you come to rescue us as well?"
"Thank you."
"Thank you."
The marks of the muzzle were painfully still on the faces of the three.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, it was a long time. No matter how scary they say using spells is, it's tough to have a muzzle and shackles on all the time."
