Volume 17 Chapter 29-2 The Day The Kingdoms Fell I

Deorus Gray, the "Blade of Purple Lightning," was an S-rank adventurer from the Wings of the Overlord Dragon.

Laila Zarim, a special Dragon Knight, had come from the Dragon Kingdom of Gadreza.

Goren Geki, a top martial artist, represented the Kingdom of Zelouge.

All of them—famous and powerful—were defeated in seconds.

It was like they weren't even in the same world of fighting. That was how strong she was.

"Is that the one they call [Dark Heavens]...?"

Deeta muttered as she looked down at the arena from the stands.

In every match, that person showed nothing but dominance.

She kept winning again and again, like weeds popping up in spring.

"Knights and mages from our country and others... even S-rank adventurers... They all fall to her alone."

 A swordswoman like no other.

If possible, Deeta wanted her to join the Clishe Kingdom. She would have made a great general—but...

 "Still, I'm here, Your Majesty."

 A knight stepped forward.

 "Cyril, huh?"

 Cyril Zelvest.

The head of the royal guard in Clishe, and the kingdom's best swordsman.

"Even without [Dark Heavens], I'm here. Your Majesty."

Cyril kneeled, placing a hand over her chest in respect.

"I trust your strength more than anyone's," Deeta said. "But you can't protect the kingdom alone."

"The more strong people we have, the better. And Clishe is always being watched by big powers."

There was Uralis, one of the oldest countries on the continent.

It was ruled by smart kings and kept a lot of national strength.

Then there was Zelouge, always strong.

Gadreza, the Dragon Kingdom, where many dragons lived and the top Dragon Knights trained.

Caraille, a new country that was working hard on magic human development.

 And many more powerful lands.

 That's why they needed strength.

Power to protect the kingdom—no matter what came.

So that Clishe could always live on in peace.

* * *

 "Hah!"

Cyril's sword flashed, and her opponent's huge axe—belonging to Maizel, known as the "Raging Wave Great Axe"—was split clean in half at the base.

 "Ugh... I give up!"

Maizel groaned, shame on his face.

He was an S-rank adventurer from the Shield of the Holy Emperor.

He had massive power, but it didn't help him keep up with Cyril's speed. He lost without doing much at all.

 "As expected of you, Cyril."

Deeta smiled after watching the fight.

 Then—

 "Your Majesty! Trouble!"

One of her retainers came running up.

 "What is it?"

"Well... one of the contestants said, 'This is boring,' and left."

 "What?"

 Deeta frowned.

 "Who?"

"It was the swordswoman called Vermilion. The one they call [Dark Heavens]."

"Cyril's going to be so disappointed."

 Deeta sighed.

 Just then—

 "What!? She left?!"

Cyril came dashing up to the stands.

She had been in the arena just a second ago, but now she stood here—like she teleported.

 "Oh, you heard?"

 "I wanted to fight her!"

Cyril puffed up her cheeks in a pout.

"But... even you might not be able to beat her," Deeta said.

"That's so mean, Your Majesty! Aren't we childhood friends?"

"I know how strong you are, Cyril. I really do. But even for you... she might be out of reach. That's how strong this Vermilion felt."

 Deeta could feel it.

 The swordswoman had bottomless power.

And it was clear she hadn't been serious at all.

If she fought with all her strength... Deeta couldn't imagine what it would look like.

"I'm a little jealous," Cyril muttered.

 "Hm?"

"I want to be the knight who protects you, Your Majesty. The strongest one."

"You are the only one who can protect me."

 Deeta looked straight at Cyril.

"Yes, that swordswoman is strong... but she's not the kind of person who would serve someone. She fights only for herself. That's the feeling I got."

 "For herself only..."

"She's the complete opposite of you, Cyril. You fight for me."

"Then that means I really am your number one knight."

Cyril's face lit up with joy.
