Volume 1 Chapter 4 Royal Adventurer Academy Hector As Soon As He Arrives, He Is Challenged To A Battle By The Arrogant Blaze
"N-no way... I worked so hard for the future of me and Ran..."
Blaze slumped his shoulders, looking really disappointed.
"Next, please."
The kind Elder Sister at the reception called out, and the line of applicants moved forward. Ran and I stepped ahead. Just two more to go.
"...Mobu."
Blaze lowered his head and spoke to me quietly.
"Do you understand what it means to enroll in this academy?"
"Yeah. It's a boarding school. If you pass, they pay for tuition, food, and housing. But only if you're recognized as having the talent to be an adventurer in the entrance exam."
"The exam is a mock battle. You know that, right?"
"I heard about it."
They use mock battles to check our skills and quick thinking. I've seen this kind of test in games before.
"In that exam, I got all A's in every category. I had the best results since the academy started. Everyone was talking about me."
"Wow, that's amazing."
Well, Blaze is the main character in the game. He quickly built a harem here and beat monsters easily from the first battle.
"So I was treated like a special scholarship student, and they refunded my tuition."
He looked up at me, glaring for some reason.
"My family's gone now, but I'm rich. I even paid for Ran's tuition. Can you do that, Mobu? Make Ran happy. You came here relying on me, didn't you?"
What's with that? Blaze is usually nice, but when it comes to Ran, he gets all fired up. I get it — he lost the main heroine at the start of the game.
But I didn't come here relying on Blaze. I just want a stable life for me and Ran. The village head even spoke for me.
"Neither I nor Mobu came after Blaze," Ran said quietly. She's a childhood friend and doesn't want to hurt his feelings.
"Bragging about grades and money feels childish, Blaze. Mobu saved my life, but he never acts like it's a big deal."
She hugged my arm tight.
"Right, Mobu?"
She looked up at me with serious eyes.
"That's true."
Blaze bit his lip, then said, "...Then I'll be your opponent in the entrance exam."
Suddenly, a blue transparent flame field surrounded us. We were moved to the starting positions for battle inside the simulation arena — the place I'd see many times later in the game.
"Stop it, Blaze."
I sighed.
"Ran and I didn't come here to fight. What are you so cocky about with your childhood friend?"
I barely know Blaze. In the game, Mobu is the childhood friend, but I'm just an outsider player.
"What's going on?"
A crowd gathered at the entrance exam site. The real exam happens in the gym through mock battles. Someone is fighting now.
"Look at that. The genius with all A's is picking a fight with an amateur before even entering."
"And both are wearing ragged clothes. So petty, attacking a poor kid."
I heard the whispers and sighed again. This is trouble.
"Let's stop this, Blaze. Even if it's a mock battle, fighting your childhood friend won't help anyone."
Blaze wants to crush me and impress Ran. Of course — he's the main hero, and Ran's his childhood friend. If I were the protagonist, I'd want revenge too.
"Let's start, Mobu. Draw your sword."
But my suggestion was ignored. Blaze drew a long sword from her waist. The blade burned red with fierce flames.
"Ifrit's Sword..."
That rare weapon is a limited edition bonus item. It can be the main weapon until mid-game.
I don't even have a sword. What am I supposed to do?
"Hey, Ms. Lina, isn't this nice?"
Blaze glanced toward the reception desk.
"Consider this your entrance exam."
The receptionist — Elder Sister Lina — spoke calmly despite the tension.
"All this season's new students are interesting."
She smiled gently, flipping through documents.
"Those two over there... Mobu and RanRan. From the same village as Blaze. Well, as a fellow hometown kid, I suppose it's fine."
She looked up.
"Accepting this as the exam is okay... but Blaze, those are two opponents."
"I'm an all-A student. I won't lose to two amateurs."
I felt Blaze's strong breath, calm but confident.
"What will you do, Mobu?" Ran asked, her eyes sharp.
She could sense strong magic from Blaze's sword. Blaze might be tough, but that weapon is the real threat.
Ran is training to be a powerful healer. Her magic sense is high. She recognized the rare weapon 'Ifrit's Sword' immediately. Its high strength and fire magic let the wielder cast light fire spells without using MP. It's perfect for fast battles and boss fights.
"Well, it's fine."
I sighed again. Trouble was coming, but I had to face Blaze.
"Blaze is cocky. It'd be sad if I don't answer him."
"But..."
"I have an idea. Leave it to me, Ran."
She nodded, trusting me.
"If Mobu decides, I'll follow."
I made up my mind. With my game settings as "Instant Death Mob," there's no way I can beat Blaze, the main hero. I'm unarmed, and he has a rare sword. To win, there's only one option. If I use that...
Notes:
• Ran - Female. An orphan and a close friend of Mobu. She has long, dark hair and a gentle appearance. Ran is kind and trusting, often relying on Mobu for guidance. She survives the demon attack by hiding in the secret base with Mobu.
• Blaze - Male. The protagonist of the game, born into the wealthy Rosinore family. He has blond hair and a heroic appearance. Blaze is kind and lacks arrogance despite his status. He is destined to become a hero and defeat the Demon King. His relationship with Mobu and Ran is complex, as they are not part of the main story.
• Ms. Lina - Female. The kind-looking elder sister at the academy's reception desk. She has a relaxed demeanor and a gentle smile. She oversees the entrance exams and allows Blaze's impromptu battle with Mobu and Ran, noting their shared hometown. She flips through documents casually, suggesting she is organized yet laid-back.
