Volume 1 Chapter 6 Breaking The Rare Sword Of The Protagonist Blaze

Volume 1 Chapter 6 Breaking The Rare Sword Of The Protagonist Blaze

Ifrit Sword shattered the moment it struck my forehead.

Forged from tamahagane steel and said to cut through ogre hide, the crimson blade scattered in blazing fragments, bursting like fireworks across the air.

 "Wha!?"

 "No way!"

Shocked voices rang out from the audience.

Riding that momentum, I thrust out a palm strike — a shoutei — directly at Blaze's solar plexus. A deep impact reverberated through my arm... and something in my back twisted unnaturally.

 "Ggh──!"

Blaze was blasted back nearly ten meters, crashing into the opposite wall with a heavy thud. He crumpled, unconscious.

The battlefield fell into stunned silence.

 "W-What just happened...?"

 Every mouth hung open.

 "Why did the sword break?"

 "Is that guy secretly OP?"

"He didn't use any weapons... or magic."

"That was a rare sword! Do you know how impossible it is to get one like that?"

"Just a palm strike... and it hit harder than a troll's club?"

"Even the kingdom's top martial artist couldn't do that."

"Maybe that magic girl used some kind of trick?"

"But it was just healing magic..."

 "Then... what the heck happened?"

 The murmurs slowly returned.

Sorry, Blaze. I had no choice.

To beat the "hero bias," I activated a hidden bug — one where touching the wall for ten seconds while under healing magic made me invincible and boosted my STR by 256 times for a short while.

 "The match is over!"

A woman raised her hand high — Ms. Lina, the receptionist older sister-type.

 "Mobu and Ran's group wins!"

The barrier field around us vanished in an instant.

 "You were amazing, Mobu!"

Ran ran up to me and leapt into my arms. I lost my balance and fell flat onto my butt.

 The gallery burst into laughter.

"He's strong, but still fell over from a girl's hug?"

"Hard to tell if he's OP or just goofy."

"Did anyone bet on the examinee?"

"Nah, all the money was on the other guy."

 "Ugh..."

 "Blaze, are you alright?"

Still sitting, Ran clinging to me, I glanced over. Blaze groaned as he sat up, holding his side with a grimace.

"I held back... This is just an exam. You shouldn't have gotten seriously hurt."

But in a real fight, that impact would've snapped his spine for sure.

"No... I can't lose... I got straight A's on the entrance exams, broke school records, made it into the Dragon Class... top of SSS..."

He held his head in his hands, groaning.

 "Why... Why someone like Mobu..."

I extended a hand to help him up. He slapped it away.

 "Just leave me alone."

"Don't be like that. We're childhood friends, right?"

 I raised my hand again.

"Anyway, sit there and rest until it stops hurting. Sorry about your sword."

 "...."

Ran clung to my waist, looking up with regret in her eyes.

"Ms. Lina, can Ran and I be accepted?"

 "Of course."

 Ms. Lina smiled gently.

"That was... something else. I've only worked here about a year, but I've never seen a technique like that. However..."

 Her smile faded slightly.

"Mobu will be placed in the lowest class — Z Class."

"Why!? Mobu beat an SSS student instantly!" Ran protested.

"He used no weapons or magic. It's too irregular. There's no proper way to evaluate something like that. I'm sorry. Cases like this... they're unprecedented at Hector Royal Adventurer Academy."

 "That's..."

 Ran's words trailed off.

"But don't worry. RanRan, your magic aptitude is top-class. I'll be assigning you to SSS — Dragon Class — same as Blaze, since you're from the same hometown."

"No. I want to be in the same class as Mobu."

 The audience stirred.

"She turned down SSS? For Z Class?"

"That place barely has any classes at all..."

 Ms. Lina blinked wide-eyed.

"You're serious? Z Class is tough to rise out of, and once you turn it down, Dragon Class won't be an option anymore."

"That's okay. As long as I'm with Mobu."

With drooped eyes, Ran nodded firmly.

"...I understand. Then both of you will be in Class Z. But RanRan... what a waste of talent..."

Ms. Lina tilted her head, clearly confused.

"Ms. Lina, I have one more request."

 She smiled again.

"What is it, Mobu? You may be in Z Class, but I can see you've got some very strange potential. I'll listen."

I looked down at Ran still holding me tightly. Honestly, I didn't care much about class placement. I wasn't here to become some grand adventurer.

I just needed a place to stay while figuring out how to survive.

Z Class seemed like a chill option. SSS looked like too much effort.

"Please make us special scholarship students."

 "Special scholarship...?"

"Both of us are orphans. We can't afford the tuition. We barely scraped by with help from the village chief just to take the exam."

 "I see..."

Ms. Lina looked us over — our worn-out clothes, tired expressions.

"To qualify for scholarships, you need exceptional ability... RanRan should be fine. Mobu... yours is a bit... unconventional."

Because the way I won was too weird. Scholarships usually go to those in top-tier classes, not the Z Class.

Ms. Lina turned toward the other staff in the venue. The event organizer was gathering bets from grumpy spectators, and behind him stood ten adults, likely instructors.

Some nodded silently. A few frowned and shook their heads. The rest didn't move at all.

 "...It can't be helped."

Ms. Lina let out a small sigh.

"Mobu, I don't know whether you're strong or just lucky... but letting that talent go to waste would be a loss to the kingdom."

 Standing tall, she bowed deeply.

"The Royal Adventurer Academy Hector officially welcomes Mobu and RanRan as scholarship students. Young hawks with talent — welcome."

The audience erupted. Cheers, claps, even foot-stomping. The floor trembled with excitement.

 "Yes!"

 "Now this is getting good!"

Blaze, still unable to stand, looked up at me, frustrated.

"Why... someone like Mobu... and I'm in SSS..."

He kept muttering, holding his head. Kinda dramatic, Blaze. You're supposed to be the main character, right?

 "──Wait a minute."

 A voice called out sharply.

One girl stepped forward from the crowd.

Her sharp features gave her a regal, proud look — eyes glaring with intensity. Her long red hair was tied into twin tails, flaring like fire.

She wore a school uniform with a Dragon emblem on her chest.

 SSS Class.

 A classmate of Blaze.

Her appearance screamed high-class upbringing, from her posture to the way she held herself.

 Blaze looked up slowly.

 I recognized her instantly.

Of course — from the game.
