Volume 6 Chapter 16 The Princess's Part-Time Job

Inside the royal castle of Diamante's capital, there was a "public space" on the first floor. It had once been a place for citizens to voice complaints and seek aid.

Back when Horace ran the capital alone, he handled thousands of complaints daily. Every single day, four-digit numbers rolled in—requests, demands, whining. Yet somehow, he managed.

Thanks to Horace's efforts, the capital became a haven. Refugees from across the world flooded in, broken and desperate. Victims—not just of war, but of the Demon Lord himself. Disaster survivors, the weak. The pitiful.

Global laws supported their protection. Backed by that system, they filed endless grievances—shameless, loud, and relentless. But Horace, the top Golem Master, kept it all running with sheer technical brilliance.

To be blunt, most of the refugees lacked imagination. Their problems were boring: food, housing, money. Solve those, and they'd shut up.

Well... except one issue: the shortage of prostitutes.

Horace could've whipped up golem replacements. Technically, he did. But even he couldn't bring himself to tell grieving war orphans to sleep with a doll. So he ignored that one. Everything else? He handled it.

When he stepped down, chaos returned. The complaints surged, the staff vanished, and Valzeil eventually barked, "Kick out the commoners!" The public space was shuttered.

Later, someone remembered the "common folk" mattered, and reopened the space. It was a ghost of its former self.

 Now?

 "YEEAAAAAH! IT'S DONE!! WOOO!!"

Lucia was losing her mind over a shaved ice machine. Beside her, Ellie stood quietly, helping without comment.

Horace walked in, sighed, and rubbed his forehead. I used to sweat blood in this room, he thought. Now it's a food stall.

 "Ah, Master," someone said.

 It was Tiaris.

"You were here first," Horace muttered.

"The Luster Report executives are here. Nousa too. And half the Hero's Mansion showed up. I'm exhausted."

"Exhausted? But you arrived before the golem I sent..."

 "It's a short story."

 "...Let's hear it."

"When everyone boarded the mobile base I was maintaining, Lucia pressed a switch."

 "A switch?"

 "The 'Release Restriction' switch."

 Horace stared at her.

"That thing was for emergencies only."

"Right? I thought it was locked. But the moment she hit it, the base went full speed. No brakes. I had to steer us all the way here."

 "That... sounds brutal."

"It was brutal. I spent the whole ride wishing I could strangle her. She just kept laughing."

A twitch pulsed on Tiaris's temple. Lucia, of course, was still gleefully making ice treats like nothing happened.

 "...And now shaved ice?"

"She blew all her money on snacks. So she dragged out the machine from the mobile base and set up shop. Ellie's keeping her from bankrupting herself further."

 Horace just shook his head.

 "Conclusion?" he asked.

"Only I can control that base. So naturally, I'm the one who suffers most."

She groaned, then muttered, "I'm heading to the inn. I'm done."

Tiaris left the castle, muttering in a tone so tired it could put a dragon to sleep.

"...That's Ms. Tiaris, right?" asked a voice nearby.

Horace turned. Cain stood there, watching her go.

 "Is she the head maid?"

"Technically she's 'Mobile Base Commander.' But yeah, she manages the maids too."

"I figured. From how she stood, I'd guess she uses dual pistols. You don't see maids that strong very often."

Horace nodded slowly, unsure how rare that really was anymore. Then again... did it even matter?

 Not right now.

• Tiaris - Blonde, busty maid with a charming smile. Manages the mansion, prepares Horace's workspace, and works independently. Grateful for being raised by Horace, dedicates herself to serving him.

• Nousa - Horace's little sister.

• Cain - A 14-year-old beautiful boy with short, light purple hair. Newly appointed Commander of the Diamante Kingdom Knight Order. Highly talented and efficient, tasked with managing the 'Forest of Souls' dungeon and participating in the Blood Duel Cup. Twin brother of Abel.
