Volume 6 Chapter 37 A Certain Legend Of The Diamante Kingdom

"Haa, haa... What is going on? Seriously, everyone's doing whatever they want."

 "Good work," someone replied calmly.

 Abel pushed through his fatigue.

After delivering the magic tools to Rangella and Garboros, he collected the agents and quickly made his way back toward the venue. There, his subordinates informed him that Sword-Eyed Cain, Unscalable Rivela, and Hundred-Heaven Blade Zachariah had already gone ahead to confront the Billion Sin Dragon Zabi Lienea.

Without hesitation, Abel changed direction and rushed over to deliver the required tools.

But just as he returned once more, new information reached him: Abyssal Tree Vande, Unarmed Two-Hander Tokohime, and Joyful Water Alchemist Sid had gone to challenge the Colossus Death Dragon Giga Bonequ.

"...Again with this pattern?" he muttered with a sigh, then turned on his heel and sprinted off once more with the tools in hand.

This cycle continued, all as part of his report to Valzeil, king of the Diamante Kingdom.

With everyone moving at such absurd speeds, Abel couldn't help but think: "They'll probably make it in time anyway. Maybe they could afford to wait a little."

Particularly, Vande, Tokohime, and Sid were older warriors who had once tasted defeat. He figured it was natural they'd move a bit more cautiously now. But he kept those thoughts to himself.

"And my brother even said, 'If Abel brushed his hair and dressed properly, he might look just like me. That'd make me happy.'"

"Oh? And how did you respond to that?"

"Naturally, I gave him a body blow."

"I see... Well, perhaps it's because you tend to push social obligations onto him. Don't you think?"

"That's unrelated. This is a separate matter."

 "...I understand."

Valzeil, who had no siblings of his own, didn't fully grasp the idea of sibling dynamics—especially between twins.

Still, that didn't stop him from lightly poking Cain's slouched back as he walked past.

 "...And that over there—"

"Ah, yes. That's the Spirit Dragon God, Uro Adamas."

It stood at the center of the arena, a towering gray giant adorned with shimmering mineral crystals, resembling embedded diamonds across its body. Its mere presence radiated overwhelming pressure.

The four facing it held a tense silence—not out of fear of defeat, but because this was a public spectacle, a heavily watched "event."

They weren't the type to worry about public image or future evaluations. Even so, they didn't want to be reckless and risk causing a major incident or getting disqualified.

That about summed up their mindset.

"And in terms of their response lineup, there's Earth-Seeing Horace, Soul-Singing Ivan, Iron Cutter Sumeragi, and Holy Knight Masamitsu..."

"Oh, by the way—do you think Abel considers those four to be the 'Four Strongest in the World'?"

"Hm... That's doubtful. All four, including Uro Adamas, are men. They wouldn't really compare to the Demon Lord."

"...That's one way to see it."

"If we're just talking about swordsmanship or pure magic power, I doubt they're the true top four."

 "Any other thoughts?"

"Not really. Just... if this is the level the Bismuth Federation is offering, it might not be enough to let those four show their full potential."

 "...I see."

 Valzeil's expression shifted—just slightly—into something resembling disappointment.

 "...What is it?" Abel asked.

"No... It's just that all the dragons appearing this time are said to be connected to the founding of the Diamante Kingdom."

 "Connected to the founding..."

"To call such beings 'lacking in power' feels a bit... unfortunate."

 "Is that all? I understand."

"You don't feel anything about that?"

"Not really. Honestly, it's pointless to cling too hard to the past. It's a common tale—legends from a country's founding become shackles when people fail to adapt to the present."

The legends from four hundred years ago... and the kingdom that rose from them.

No matter what the founders once believed in, the Diamante Kingdom had now grown into the largest nation in the world.

And as a nation evolves, so too must the boldness of its beliefs.

Clinging too tightly to old glories can only hold things back.

 "...You're right."

"Of course, I understand something incredible must've happened back then. If they really did defeat that spirit dragon god, then that's undeniably a great feat. Let's just say... they had bad luck this time."

 "..."

"Also, I've been vice captain of the knight order for a while now, but I've barely heard any mention of those four dragons. And there's no trace of their legends in any records, right? It feels unfair to be expected to treat them as important."

"That's true. I've never seen any monuments to them in the royal capital either."

 "Exactly."

Valzeil had his own perspective—but so did Abel.

To him, it was simple: "Don't expect others to value something unless you genuinely want it preserved."

"Still... Even if those four manage to overwhelm that dragon with ease, that doesn't mean the founding legends deserve ridicule."

"I agree. Even I, someone who can intimidate monsters on the sixty-fifth floor, wouldn't dare take that dragon lightly. At the very least, I can believe that incredible battles took place in the past."

 He understood clearly.

For a human to face that creature head-on would be a formidable challenge.

That's why he didn't treat it lightly.

But that subtle hollowness... likely came from Valzeil's own pride in his royal lineage.
