Volume 6 Chapter 38 Holy Sword
"Yaaawn... Too bad we couldn't leave it to Abel," Cain said, stretching lazily.
"Getting punched in the gut is just part of the routine, right?" Rivela added, smirking.
"Honestly, I was thinking the same," Zachariah replied with a small shrug.
Cain, Rivela, and Zachariah were preparing the streaming magic tool.
Thanks to Horace's invention, the magic tool was easy to use and didn't consume much magical power.
Rivela was fiddling with it carefully, Zachariah was eating mushroom pasta from a paper pack, and Cain stood in the back, glaring at the dragon.
"Alright, all set! We can stream now," Rivela declared, stepping back from the device.
"That was easier than I expected," Cain said, still chewing pasta.
"The buttons are numbered. Just press them in order and it works like a charm. No big deal," she explained with confidence.
"So you're saying... even when the manual says 'press in order,' some still don't work?" Zachariah asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Exactly. Muspelheim's been around two hundred years. We've found all sorts of stuff in dungeons. Not all of it's reliable," she replied with a sigh.
Creating magic tools had basic principles. Improving or rearranging these tools could make them stronger. But no item could last forever.
Items wear down, and the staff at storage couldn't do their jobs if they didn't manage the condition of their equipment properly—more important than security itself.
"A Holy Sword sure would be convenient," Rivela muttered, fiddling with her gear.
"Too bad there aren't any in the Azette Kingdom," Zachariah said.
"Wait—seriously?" Cain blinked in surprise.
"Yeah. The kingdom's all-in on magic research. Collecting swords isn't really their thing," Zachariah explained.
Zachariah was a court sorcerer of Azette Kingdom. The two court sorcerers there were considered the highest combat power. They even had special swords like magic swords, which magicians could use well.
But fundamentally, they were magicians, so swords were still hard to get for them.
This was very different from the Chaos Stone Dragonstone Kingdom, which had the Great Mine of Gold World and many blacksmiths.
"So what is a Holy Sword, exactly?" Rivela asked.
"In short? A really sturdy sword," Zachariah said plainly.
"That's it?" she tilted her head.
"Back in the day, sword tech was weak. But people enhanced their bodies with mana, swinging heavy blades nonstop. That's how heroes were born," he said.
"They didn't need special effects. Just weapons that didn't break," he added. "The Church of Shinathica has a bunch of Holy Swords, but most of them are just... really hard to break."
"Makes sense," She nodded.
"Even if someone taught me swordplay, I wouldn't want a Holy Sword," Zachariah said.
"Why not?" Rivela asked.
"I just don't need one too," he answered.
Zachariah used boomerangs.
His nickname was 'Hundred-Heaven Blade' because he crushed enemies with many boomerangs. Although he could fight close up with dual boomerangs, his style was mostly long-range.
"For me, I can't even find a sword that works with Surtr," Rivela said, crossing her arms. "If I had one as sturdy as a Holy Sword, maybe I could change my fighting style."
"You think you need a sidearm on top of Surtr's firepower?" Zachariah asked. "Why not focus on drawing out more of its strength?"
"Mmmh..." she frowned.
"The Great Flame Sword Surtr," Cain began. "One of the Four Divine Treasures from a great kingdom a thousand years ago.
"With your skills, Ms. Rivela, you could probably handle up to the 85th floor. Even back then, no one went beyond that. Still, I think you've got room to grow."
"I agree," Zachariah nodded.
"...," Rivela stayed silent.
"What's wrong? Is Surtr ignoring you because it doesn't like flat-chested users?" Cain asked with a teasing grin.
"I am not flat! I'm still eighteen! I'll grow more!" she shouted, face red.
Neither Cain nor Zachariah said Rivela's chance of growth was zero. But at eighteen with an AA cup, it seemed like a tough constitution to overcome.
"Besides! Dungeons come in all kinds! There has to be a potion for this somewhere!" Rivela said with fire in her eyes.
"Even if there were, a dungeon like that would be kept secret. And you, as Muspelheim's leader, don't exactly have time to go dungeon-crawling worldwide," Zachariah replied dryly.
"Grrrgh..."
No matter how much people try to hide it, everyone cares about appearance to some degree.
The power to improve looks holds more influence than most realize.
Such power would definitely be hidden if discovered.
Muspelheim, the SS rank community, was busy.
Rivela took a long break for the Blood Duel Cup, which happens every four years. There was talk of a revival led by the Diamante Kingdom.
Otherwise, no one could afford to be away from headquarters for long.
Dungeons were diverse. That was certain.
But after two hundred years of training, no power to grow large breasts had been found.
That was also a fact.
"Anyway! Let's take down that dragon already!" Rivela shouted, pointing ahead.
"Yeah. It's about time," Zachariah said, getting ready.
"Thanks for the pasta," Cain said as he stood up. "Guess I'll fight too."
And so, the team prepared to battle the dragon.
