Chapter 9 Prologue: Truth And Another World
After Zect's wedding and settling the inheritance from the documents, I thought I'd finally live a quiet life. But it seems impossible.
"Ceres-kun, no matter where you go, it's the same."
Shizuko-san said, and my other wives nodded in agreement.
Indeed, it's impossible.
Everywhere I go, people cry out, "God! Dragon God!"
Pope Romalis tried to help, but crowds still gather, and there's nothing I can do.
If a dying child or a crying mother begs for help, I can't turn them away.
In the end, I can't live peacefully among people, no matter where I am.
I even thought about returning to Jimna town, but that feels impossible too.
My statue is there, and I'm sure the town mayor would pressure me.
And if I became mayor, the clergy would flock to me again.
When I consulted Ishtas-sama, she smiled and said,
'It's good for a goddess to live in the divine realm.'
But that place is more like a paradise where you do nothing—it's not the quiet life I want.

"It's been a long time, Ceres," a voice said.
"Bauer-sama?"
I looked up, startled. The underworld dragon Bauer-sama had appeared before me as I walked through the town.
"Ceres, I heard you're troubled. Is it true you want a quiet life?"
It's amazing he knows my worries even from the underworld.
"Yes."
"This ties into your wish. I'll tell you the truth about true dragons!"
The truth about dragons? How does that relate to my quiet life?
"First, where do you think I came from?"
"Legends say you've reigned since the world began."
"That's right, but there's more. We came from the sky—the universe!"
From the universe? What an amazing story.
"So, are you saying I should find a star where I can live freely in space?"
"No, the Dragon King's roots are a long way off. You wouldn't die in space now, but you can't move freely yet. And, slightly off-topic, my true role is to watch over this world as a 'Watcher.'"
I didn't know Bauer-sama had such a mission.
"Amazing, isn't it? When humans grow wise enough to govern, and gods are born, I'll leave this star."
Bauer-sama's story touched on the laws of this world:
1. Bauer-sama and the Dragon Kings rule, and their subordinates, the Dragon Lords, are born.
2. Later, gods are born.
3. As gods take over, true dragons—Dragon Kings and Lords—leave for other worlds to watch over new civilizations.
4. When humans can govern their world, gods also depart.
But I had a question. If Mammon became the war god Arks, where does this world fit in?
"I understand, but I think Arks' world is different?"
"I'm not sure either! I was scouted from another divine realm. It's strange, but the truth isn't singular—that's what makes this world fun."
"Haa..."
"Ceres, the world I govern isn't the entire world!"
Bauer-sama continued.
"What? Doesn't the underworld god Bauer-sama rule everything?"
Another surprise. Was it okay for me to know this?
"Only Ishtas-sama, myself, and the Dragon Lord know this. Two Watchers came to this world. We ruled together at first, but disagreed and split. I rule the northern half; another dragon king rules the southern half."
"Like ruling half of Earth?"
"Yes. The dragon kings created a barrier between the worlds, but Dragon Kings and Lords can pass freely. We signed a contract not to cross, though."
"Haha."
"But you, the new Dragon Lord, haven't signed. You can cross freely. No one here knows you, but in the other world, no one knows you, Ceres. You could live a quiet life there. What do you think?"
"That's true, but is it okay if I go alone?"
"Normally, it'd be a problem, but you're highly skilled for your age. If we compare you to a Dragon Lord, you're less than a year old—just a baby. We wouldn't get upset over a baby!"
"Then I'm reassured. I'll discuss it with my wives. Can they cross the barrier too?"
"Yeah. If you decide to go, I'll help."
"Then I feel safe."
It sounds good, but Bauer-sama seems eager for me to go, which bothers me slightly. I'll ask about the conditions once I decide.
