Volume 7 Chapter 25-2 A Special Individual Who Is A Brainless Mad Engineer
"Yeah. Take a look."
Noah mumbled, "Incredible... so this is it," while poking the photoglyph plate Randy handed him.
"How should I put it... it has a bit of elasticity."
Noah, filled with surprise and curiosity from the strange sensation, looked at Randy as if to say, "Explain."
"You know about Valion, right?"
"Yeah. They're the provider of the material often called the key to the photos."
As Noah nodded, it was already common knowledge that Valion's bodily fluids were used in the photosensitive paper. No matter how hard they tried to hide it, it was expected to be exposed. The formula for the most important fixer liquid, among other things, remained a secret.
Even without that, since Lucian holds international patents, no one can copy it.
"Anyway, if you know about the existence and effect, the explanation is quick," Randy spoke up.
"The photoglyph plate has been specially treated with Valion's bodily fluids."
Simply put, it isn't stretched but condensed. A liquid that reacts to strong light, mixed with other materials, and turned into something like gelatin is attached.
"The effect itself doesn't change, and since there's no fixer liquid in it──"
Randy nodded at Ellie, and after Ellie warned, "Close your eyes," light burst forth. The lobby was enveloped in intense light, and when it subsided, the photoglyph plate returned to just a plain white plate.
"So, this way, it can be reused."
Saying that, Randy took the photoglyph plate from Noah again, took a picture with a prototype, and──with Randy's figure faintly visible──handed the plate back to Noah.
Noah, having received the plate once again, observed it from various angles and muttered, "I see," showing Randy a full smile.
"The photoglyph plate, huh. I sort of get what you want to do!"
Seeing Noah so happy, Randy also returned a smile, saying, "That's amazing." With just this little bit of information, only a few people, including Cedric, would understand what Randy wanted to do.
But that is probably the true essence of this man named Noah Arcline. When it comes to magic tools and ideas related to them, he undoubtedly possesses a rare talent.
"You want to use this like letterpress printing, right?"
Noah's smile made Randy nod in agreement. "Exactly." The letterpress printing still mainstream in this world is a technique that combines engraved printing plates to print. Randy's plan is to carve the plates instantly and make them reusable.
"It's very interesting, but if you do it like that, doesn't it differ from the name 'photoglyph plate'?"
"Well, yeah. Photoglyph plate is just a convenient name, after all. Just to give it a letterpress feel."
Noah thought with a "Hm" as Randy shrugged.
"I thought you'd create the unevenness with the wavelength of magical power of light."
Apparently, Noah seemed to have an idea about that method, tilting his head and asking, "Would you like to discuss it?"
"That's a kind offer, but if we do that, we can only do single-color or at best two-color printing, right?"
Randy aims for the complete reproduction of this photograph, which is his goal.
"You mean full color? I heard that such technology has been researched recently..."
Noah talked about the letterpress aimed at color printing, which involves dividing the plate by color and overlapping multiple printing processes, similar to methods used in modern society.
It is the culmination of craftsmen's effort, but since it increases the plates and processes, it's quite a complicated task...
"I won't bother with such troublesome things."
This is excluded from Randy's perspective.
"We have the mysterious powers of magical power and beasts of mysterious creatures."
Randy smirked, and Liz and Ellie felt an ominous premonition. From Randy, all they heard was "I want to use this like letterpress," but there's an unsettling aura emanating.
"Randy, why not just use Valion-made photosensitive paper──"
At the moment Liz tried to pull Randy's hand, Noah showed a face of interest and said, "Wait," indicating he's intrigued by Randy's idea.
"How do you plan to separate and apply all the colors... and do you have an idea about that?"
"Well, yeah."
That wicked smile is the face of the mad Randy. When he makes this face, he's usually thinking of something outrageous. Noticing this, Ellie gave a wry smile and said, "You, could it be...?"
"The reason you told me 'only the theory is fine' was to get rid of people, wasn't it?"
"It's not exactly to get rid of people, but... well... I just don't want others to hear it yet."
Randy grinned, and Ellie sighed, saying, "What a hopeless guy." They had been able to improve the Illusory Strain Crystal by themselves, but Randy had deliberately handed it over to the Magic Tool Research Club. The reason, he said, was because he didn't want to share the things they were about to discuss.
In other words, Randy had anticipated this situation since last night.
"What could you be thinking, going so far as to get rid of people?"
Unable to suppress his curiosity, Noah asked, and Randy grinned before opening his mouth.
"There are people like that in this world, right? Those troublesome people who like a specific color."
With that wicked face of Randy's, Liz thought it was bad, but it was already too late.
──In his world, the rule is to crush them on sight when found.
The words Randy had once shared echoed in Liz and Ellie's minds.
"Could it be... the Element?"
"That's right. Ghosts could also be used as materials. It's kindness to find a use for them, right?"
When Randy let out a laugh, the door to the lab opened, and a strangely peaceful voice called out, "I just want to ask for an opinion," echoing into the lobby.
※It won't be as big of a deal as a ghost.
