Volume 7 Chapter 27-2 I Wish I Could Have Done It Immediately After Deciding To Do It
At Randy's words, Lucius looked up at the ceiling. If Randy had heard the rumors, that meant the students probably had too.
In other words, if they just left it alone, the same kind of mess from before could happen all over again.
"They keep showing up, even though we chase them off every time... Can you really deal with that?"
Randy smiled. Lucius, still groaning internally, gave a big nod. "Understood."
"I'll approve it through the investigation committee. But for safety, I'll assign an instructor I trust to go with you. You follow their instructions."
Randy and Liz looked at each other, then slapped a high-five.
"If that's how it is," Liz said with a grin, pointing at the bottom of the poster, "how about putting your name and the instructor's down here too? Might make more students want to join."
There was just a little space left at the bottom—just enough to slip in a sponsor name. It would make it feel more official, more secure.
"I get what you're thinking, but we can't put our names on this."
Lucius smiled wryly. Liz gave a bitter smile back. "Yeah, figured."
Since it was technically part of Randy's election campaign, putting a teacher's name on it would make it unfair to the other candidates.
"Anyway, who're you assigning?"
"Hmm... I'm thinking Instructor Leia."
"Magic theory Leia?"
Randy tilted his head. In his mind, he pictured a sharp-eyed elf woman in a tight suit, blonde hair in a bun, and those sharp fox-like glasses. She'd helped him during that ghost incident before, indirectly reporting things to the government.
"That's right. She's the type who'd be curious about this sort of thing. Not exactly what Miss Elizabeth meant by 'sponsorship,' but she'll join as a security officer for the fieldwork."
Lucius explained that Leia wasn't just into magic theory—she was also interested in magical creatures. So she'd definitely be into the Element stuff.
He wanted to call it support, but with the election going on, they couldn't go that far. Calling it security detail would do.
Randy gave a nod. Good enough. The Element Investigation Group—capture mission in disguise—was now officially part of his campaign.
"Then just let the instructor know. We'll go greet her later today."
"Understood. I'll arrange it."
Randy and Liz left the office after saying goodbye.
"Nice timing."
Ellie was standing right outside the door.
"Sorry you had to wait. Heard everything?"
"Yeah. They said it's fine to post the posters as part of the investigation."
Ellie nodded. She'd already contacted Catherine and Annabelle. Even if Elements had nothing to do with the Church officially, some people still misunderstood. So this had to be handled carefully.
That's why she got Catherine and Annabelle's okay before putting up posters.
Since both of them were known to be close to Randy, just posting stuff would make it look like they were silently backing the investigation—which meant the Church was too.
"They said they'd ask the Archbishop if they can give formal support."
"But it's not that serious..."
Randy scratched his head. But if they were doing it out of goodwill, no need to stop them.
Actually, Randy didn't know, but those Element kidnappings had been giving the Church real headaches.
The Church denied any connection, but some people still believed Elements were servants of the goddess—and when those people vanished, it looked like the goddess was stealing them away.
Randy didn't know any of this. He just wanted to get the posters out in the open.
"Alright, let's start posting!"
Whether people came or not didn't matter. That mindset alone gave their posters an edge—people noticed them.
Of course, the topic was controversial. Actually, it was worse than controversial.
Everyone knew. Messing with Elements was asking for it.
So even if students were curious, they couldn't take the first step. They all used "it's dangerous" as an excuse to stay out of it.
And then, new rumors started to spread. That Randy's campaign itself might be canceled. Dario's faction had started that whisper network yesterday.
Apparently, Governor Gustav was coming to investigate whether the candidates were even properly recommended.
And sure enough, before morning classes even started, Gustav's carriage rolled through the main gate—and that rumor blew up harder than any poster could.
A dangerous investigation. A shaky campaign.
Those two things made students hesitate. And the biggest reason?
"An Element investigation? Allowing something that dangerous..."
Governor Gustav muttered as he looked at one of Randy's posters with a frown.
Then, with a louder voice, he declared:
"It must be investigated thoroughly."
He turned on his heel and marched toward the vice-principal's office, a tall, intimidating figure walking behind him.
The students around him were uneasy, and Gustav could feel it in the air.
With the recommendation issue and the Element operation stacked together, he was sure—this was the perfect excuse to kill Randy's candidacy.
He smiled confidently, marching like a man with purpose.
But those same proud steps... were actually taking him closer to helping Randy.
And that part, Gustav had no idea about.
Character Notes:
Ellie - Ellis. Succubus from the countryside. Kind but stubborn, with a caring side once close. Trains under Lina as a Magic Swordsman. Fast enough for Advanced-tier speed, though struggles in real fights. Cautious, efficient, and quietly hidden from Kent.
