Volume 3 Chapter 19 Town Wall Expansion V
The expansion of the town wall began, and 6 days have passed. About 400 meters are added each day, so roughly 2.4 kilometers have been completed. The reason it's about 2.4 km is that each magic spell constructs 200 meters, but a small gap appears when building the next section.
To fix this, a 6-meter gap was intentionally left between walls, and a new wall was built perpendicular to fill it. This idea came from Gardy's comment.
"Ah, no matter what, there's always a gap between the town walls."
Since the stone wall must touch the ground, a small gap remains, about the width of Cain's hand. Even when building in the opposite direction, a gap appears because a marker pole is used.
"Barvish, do you have any good ideas?"
"Well, how about making an extra section to fill the gap?"
"Hmm, I tried that earlier, but it doesn't fit perfectly. There's always a gap or a step."
While Cain and Barvish were thinking about how to fill the gap...
"Sir Cain, how do you climb this town wall? If there are only stairs at the ends, it seems difficult to move around. Are we adding stairs in the middle?"
Gardy asked, looking at the wall.
"Yeah, we need to add climbing spots at regular intervals. It's inconvenient if the only stairs are at the ends, especially for lookouts and communication. Maybe we should build a slide for going down?"
Cain replied, examining the wall he had built.
"Ah, that's right. Thank you, Gardy. Since we're building stairs, we can make the landing first. Thanks again, Gardy. Barvish, could you place a pole about 3 meters outside the wall?"
Cain handed the marked pole to Barvish. Barvish measured the distance with the Maintenance Bureau staff and set up the pole.
"Sir Cain, sorry to keep you waiting. It's done."
Barvish pointed at the pole and stepped back.
"Let's go! ...<Stone wall>"
When Cain cast the spell, a new stone wall appeared between the gaps, protruding 3 meters inside and outside, perpendicular to the existing walls.
"Alright, it worked well. Are there any gaps? I expected the gaps to be slightly larger, but it went smoothly. Oh, Barvish..."
Since Cain filled the gaps, Barvish and the Maintenance Bureau staff were left outside the wall.
After that, they continued their routine: building a 200-meter wall, leaving a 6-meter gap, and then filling it with another wall. They plan to build a U-shaped wall with 3-kilometer sides, so they're about one-third done.

"Cain, I've heard the wall construction is going well, but is there anything troubling you on site?"
Luke asked Cain during dinner.
"Well, nothing specific, but... as we build the wall, the distance to move increases, so it takes longer."
"True, that can't be helped. A town can't be built at the same time as the wall."
"Yes, even so, it's inconvenient. I'll level the perimeter tomorrow to make it easier for wagons. It'll be useful even after completion."
"Hmm, good plan, but tomorrow's a construction holiday. Don't overwork yourself."
"Yes, I planned to spend the day with Cain."
Lydia sounded disappointed.
"It's okay, it won't take long. Lady Lydia, shall we have tea in the afternoon?"
Cain suggested a tea party with a smile.
"That sounds lovely! We must ask Chef Lloyd to make delicious sweets."
Lydia looked happy, imagining the tea party.
As Cain watched Lydia, he thought,
(Compared to my past life, this is just an hour or two, not even overtime. But we still pay overtime to Barvish's team, don't we?)
The next day, after breakfast, they leveled a 10-meter-wide path inside the expanded wall for carriages. It took less than 2 hours, and they received overtime pay and lunch before returning home.
