Volume 3 Chapter 26 Sewer Construction II
The next day, Cain, Barvish, and Gardy were in the flat, open area outside the new town gate. It was a bit hard to create a big space for sewage treatment, but they were walking around. The three of them were looking toward the new town gate from the edge of the forest, a little away from the main path.
"Sir Cain, is this spot okay?"
Gardy looked around and asked Cain to confirm.
"Yeah, it's about 300 meters from the new town gate, right? We'll start digging from here, under the main path."
Cain explained to the two while comparing the map with the open area in front of the new town gate.
"There are no monsters around right now, but it's risky not to have someone guard the entrance."
Barvish said, looking back toward the forest.
"I'll build a simple house over the entrance so no one can get in. That should be fine."
Cain placed his hand on the ground and chanted [Stone Wall] to build a wall around three sides.
Barvish and Gardy sighed and shook their heads, but Cain kept working without noticing.
"Now, let's go down together──[Hole] lots!"
As Cain chanted [Hole], holes appeared one after another, forming a spiral staircase.
"Heh heh heh, just as I imagined!" Cain looked into the newly formed staircase.
(It was worth practicing in secret. Barvish didn't leave for a while.)
Barvish and Gardy looked around with wide, surprised eyes. Seeing their reactions, Cain felt extra proud.
Cain then built a stone wall on the open side for safety and started descending the spiral staircase.
"We need to finish the big space today, so let's not waste time."
"Wait for me, Sir Cain."
Barvish followed behind and started descending.
As Cain went down the staircase, he chanted [Light] on the walls to make sure there was enough light. The staircase ended at about the 4th underground level.
"Huh? Sir Cain, is this a dead end?"
Barvish asked Cain, who was touching the wall at the end of the staircase.
"We're going to dig a horizontal tunnel to create a big space from here. I'm checking the direction now, so stay quiet for a bit."
Cain leaned on the wall and used [Earth Sonar] to confirm the direction.
"Alright, this is the way. [Hole], [Hole], [Hole]..."
A tunnel wide enough for Gardy to stand and walk comfortably was finished.
"Sir Cain, how do you know this direction is right?"
Gardy asked as they walked through the tunnel.
"Before we came here, we buried a magic stone in the main path as a marker, weren't we?"
"Ah, yes, I remember burying something then."
While heading to where the staircase would be built, Cain had buried a magic stone by the roadside, which Gardy recalled.
"We'll create the big space around that magic stone."
As he explained, they reached the end of the tunnel.
"Is this the spot under the magic stone?"
Barvish looked up at the tunnel ceiling.
"Yeah. For this part, you'll just have to trust me. I'll create it all at once, so I need to focus. You two, don't move from where you're standing."
Cain stood directly under the magic stone, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath.
(Since I'll use a lot of energy, I need to build it up slowly and carefully.)
Cain slowly gathered the energy inside him, building it up and linking it together.
Next, he pictured the big space in his mind. He imagined a space about 10 meters high with evenly spaced round pillars, as big as a baseball stadium.
"Alright! *Create* [Hole]!"
Cain chanted the spell, placed his hand on the tunnel floor, and after the energy spread out, a space was created with round pillars, forming a large area.
Barvish and Gardy took several seconds to understand what happened. They looked at the space, at each other, and at Cain, then together they shouted in surprise.
"W-what is this!!!!"
"Well, I'm surprised too. I didn't expect it to happen all at once. Did I learn a new [Skill]? Also, I added some strange words before the [Hole] spell, but I'm glad it worked."
Cain answered while tapping the nearest round pillar.
