Volume 3 Chapter 29 Sewer Construction V

Volume 3 Chapter 29 Sewer Construction V

Luke's office was filled with a heavy and oppressive atmosphere. After Barvish's report, a while passed without anyone opening their mouth.

"Tactical level... Barvish. Are you sure about that?"

Luke muttered as if squeezing out the words, and confirmed again with Barvish.

"Yes, judging by the construction of the town wall and today's large space, Sir Cain is considered to be a magician capable of the power of a tactical level."

Barvish answered while lowering his gaze.

(Tactical level? What does the power of a tactical level mean? Is it about large-scale magic?)

Cain, unable to understand the term tactical level, tilted his head and thought.

"Cain, it seems you do not understand the meaning. 'Tactical level' refers to large-scale annihilation magic used in combat, called tactical magic. It usually targets about 200-300 people and can render them unable to fight. Magic users who can wield such magic are called tactical magicians."

Luke slowly explained with a frown between his eyebrows.

"Certainly, considering the scale of the town walls created daily, I thought it required enormous mana. I thought it was just capable of creating walls. I was naive in my understanding."

Luke took a deep breath and leaned against the sofa. After thinking a little, he asked Barvish a question.

"However, Barvish. In Cain's case, isn't it different from magic like [Fire magic] or [Wind magic] that is used directly on the target?"

"Yes, that's correct. In Sir Cain's case, I believe it depends on how he operates the magic. For example, creating a stone wall twice the height of the town wall diagonally and knocking it down on the enemy side, or creating a large space or a big pit directly under the plains where enemy soldiers rush in, thereby reducing their numbers."

 Barvish answers Luke's question.

"I see. If that's the case, maybe I can still deceive them..."

Luke was thinking with his eyes closed.

"Alright, Cain. For a while, make it look like the work is taking 3 times longer than it actually is. Since it's you, I don't think you'll slow down the work to be inefficient. Now that you're a noble, consider this a practice in political maneuvering. You can support Barvish, right?"

Barvish quickly responded before Cain could answer.

"──Uh, yes. I think I can manage... Understood."

 Cain replied reluctantly.

"Also, I predict there may be situations where Barvish alone can't protect you, so I'll officially appoint Gardy as Cain's attendant. I'll also allocate a room in the mansion for Gardy and his family. Randolph, is that alright?"

 "Understood," Randolph replied to Luke.

"Father Luke, I'm happy to have Gardy as my attendant, but why are you letting his family live in the mansion?"

Cain asked with a completely confused expression.

"That's because, Cain. You're too kind. If you're targeted, Barvish and Gardy will protect you, and I think you'll be able to fight as well, so I believe you'll be fine. But some people may try to use your family as hostages to manipulate you. This is a countermeasure for that. I think you'll try hard for the sake of your family and important friends."

Luke answered with a gentle expression.

"I see. Thank you, Father Luke."

 Cain thanked Luke.

"However, I can't protect you forever. You need to be able to protect yourself and your comrades, and be careful with your actions to avoid situations where you can't."

Luke said with a slightly serious expression.

Cain replied, "Thank you. I will strive to improve."
