Volume 3 Chapter 47 Grandfather And Grandmother
Cain, who reunited with Margrave Shield with a smile, talked about what happened after returning to the Sanroze territory in the office. At first, Margrave Shield listened with a "hmm hmm," but his expression gradually became stern around the discussion of building the town walls. When Cain explained the sewer installation, Margrave Shield held his temple, perhaps due to a headache.
"Phew, Cain. You're overdoing it a bit. You need to learn to hold back a little. Well, I think it's okay because it's hard to believe unless you actually see the site, but still."
He gently stroked his beard and softly chided him.
"Yes, I will hold back..."
Cain, rebuked by his superior, reflected that he had perhaps gone a little too far.
"Well, well, it's within the range I can defend, so don't be so down. Everything you're doing is for the benefit of the common people. Just one piece of advice: if you take a little more time, it shouldn't become a problem."
Frightened by his cute grandson's downcast appearance, Margrave Shield (Grandfather) hurried to follow up.
"Yes! Thank you, Grandfather. I will do my best!"
In an instant, Cain revived and beamed with the brightest smile. Seeing that, Margrave Shield nodded with satisfaction. Cain's two retainers secretly sighed.
"Tonight, it's a private affair, but we will hold a welcome party for you, Cain, so look forward to it."
"Yes, thank you very much, Grandfather."
Both of them kept smiling happily. After a while, a butler cleared his throat slightly, bringing them back to reality. Then, Cain handed over a letter from Luke and left the office.
The butler guided Cain and the others to their lodging during their stay. He explained it was not a guest room like last time, but a room used by messengers from other houses. Although the room was a little smaller, it had a large bed and a desk for official work, which was sufficient for Cain.
By the way, Barvish and the others were assigned a room in the dormitory where the servants of the Margrave Shield family live. Although it was a bit far from Cain's room, they were persuaded that it was safe, so the two of them moved toward the territory.
A maid came to call Cain just before dinner. Wondering if it was an early dinner, Cain followed the maid and was led into a guest room. When the door opened, a smiling Aisha was waiting for him.
"Welcome back, Cain. I'm sorry I couldn't greet you—I had some business and had to go outside."
Aisha smiled brightly and gestured for Cain to sit on the sofa.
"Grandmother seems to be doing well, I'm so glad. You're busy, so please don't worry about it. Just having some of your time like this makes Cain happy."
Cain sat on the sofa, thinking that she really resembled Mother Lydia, or was it Mother Lydia who resembled her?
"I heard from Lydia in a letter that you're working hard, Cain. But don't overdo it. Just yesterday, I received a letter from her, and she asked me to make sure not to push you too hard. She also said that while you're smart, you're working like an adult."
Cain was gently warned while Aisha smiled kindly.
"By the way, I received a letter from Alice the other day. She said she's working hard at the Knight Academy. Apparently, she's found a senior she greatly respects, and the happiness just overflowed from her letter."
Aisha laughed joyfully, imagining Alice working hard.
"Is that so? I haven't received any letters from her..."
"Really? Knowing Alice, maybe she's too embarrassed to write herself? I'll write a reply in a couple of days and send it along with yours. You should write a letter to Alice."
Cain cheerfully responded with "Yes" to Aisha's suggestion.
When the conversation paused, a maid approached Aisha and conveyed something.
"Cain, it seems that dinner is ready. Today's your welcome party, so enjoy it."
"Yes, thank you."
Cain was full of energy as he expressed his thanks.
