Volume 3 Chapter 48 Welcome Party
Following Aisha, Cain headed to the dining hall. Most participants were already seated, except for him and the others. Since today was his welcome party, his seat was next to Aisha. Across from him sat a man and a woman he had never seen before, along with men and women in their twenties.
When Cain sat down, Margrave Shield nodded toward the butler. At that signal, the door opened, and maids brought in the meal. They started with a warm vegetable salad, bread, and consommé soup. Everything was delicious—just what you'd expect in the Margrave Shield domain, where trade thrives.
Before the main course arrived, Margrave Shield introduced the day's participants.
"Now that our stomachs are settled, let me introduce Cain. If we started before the meal, you wouldn't get to eat, which would be unfortunate. Well, first, my son Will. Since he is Lydia's brother, he'll be Cain's uncle, right? Next to him is Will's wife, Diana. And next to her is Cain's cousin, Will's son Jody, and his wife, Beverly."
Margrave Shield introduced his children and grandchildren while sitting across from Cain.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Cain. Sorry for the late introduction."
Cain greeted them immediately.
"No need to be so formal, Cain. You're Lydia's son, so we're family. Also, I'm not fond of being too stiff. I probably took after my father, don't you think?"
Will winked playfully and lightly teased Margrave Shield. This made everyone laugh. Afterward, greetings were exchanged with Diana, Jody, and Beverly.
"Oh, by the way, I wanted to thank you, Cain. Thank you so much for teaching me the recipe for that 'hamburg' meat dish. It's really delicious."
Will happily talked about the hamburg.
"No, that's just something I happened to read in the 'Book of the Hero' and told my grandfather, so it's amazing that the Margrave Shield family's chef is so skilled."
Cain waved his hand and replied, "No, no."
"I see, I'll tell the head chef later. Also, my mother wants to eat that 'tamago yaki' at least once every two days."
When Will said this, laughter arose again. Aisha, perhaps embarrassed, pouted even more. Cain watched her, thinking these two really are mother and child.
While this was happening, the main course was brought out. Today's main dish was the discussed "Hamburg steak." Will, excited, was the first to cut into it and start eating with joy.
Today's Hamburg steak was a cheeseburger topped with cheese. The sauce it was covered in was a very delicious red wine-based sauce.
"Cain, I have a favor to ask you, is that alright?"
While eating the Hamburg, Jody said casually.
"Yes, what is it? Sir Jody, please call me Cain, and Sir Beverly as well."
Cain hurriedly swallowed his hamburger and answered.
"Thank you, I'll call you Cain. Also, we want you to call us Jody and Beverly. We are cousins after all. My request is... could you teach me the shortcake recipe from Aunt Lydia's letter?"
After Jody casually suggested a friendly way of speaking, she hesitated a little and then asked her favor.
"Jody, it's rude to ask for a recipe out of the blue."
Diana turned to Jody and cautioned her. Jody slightly hiccuped and shrugged her shoulders.
"Aunt Diana, it's fine since we're family. Besides, Mother Lydia told us to definitely teach Grandfather and Uncle Will the shortcake recipe."
Cain quickly stepped in to follow up. Jody silently conveyed her thanks by saying, "Thank you."
"Why us, I wonder? Cain?"
Margrave Shield, who had been listening to the conversation, confirmed with Cain.
"Eh, that is..."
Cain began to talk about the couple's day. Gradually, Margrave Shield's expression tightened. On the other hand, Aisha's smile deepened.
"""You, please do this for us."""
Aisha, Diana, and Beverly's voices harmonized. The three husbands replied, "Yes." Cain thought to himself, "Everyone, let's do our best!"
