Volume 3 Chapter 49 Meeting And Additional Requests
Cain was getting ready one morning, still thinking about how enjoyable yesterday's welcome party had been, when someone knocked on the door.
"Yes, come in."
When Cain responded, Barvish and Gardy entered, saying, "Excuse us."
"Good morning, Barvish, Gardy. Did you rest well yesterday?"
Cain invited them in and asked how they were doing.
"Yes, the room they prepared was very nice, and we rested comfortably. Yesterday, the two of us went drinking in town for the first time in a while."
Gardy shared details about the room and their activities from the previous day.
"That's good. At night, while staying at the Margrave Shield house, you're free to do as you wish. Since it's you two, I don't think there'll be any problems, but be careful not to get into trouble."
Cain encouraged them to relax and unwind. The two replied, "Thank you. We'll be moderate."
After Cain finished preparing, the three headed to the Margrave Shield office. Today, they would discuss the Cobblestone construction work, set to begin operations the next day. They knocked on the office door and waited for the butler to open it before entering.
Inside, Margrave Shield, Lord Will, and Mr. Doughton from the Maintenance Bureau were waiting.
"Grandfather, good morning. We apologize for keeping you waiting."
Cain apologized for being the last to arrive.
"No, no, don't worry about it. We were just a little ahead of schedule, discussing among the three of us. Now, let's move to the conference room and start the meeting." Everyone, including Cain, echoed, "Understood."
In the conference room, they quickly began discussing the order and schedule for the "Cobblestone construction" based on the model of the Margrave Shield territory Cain had previously created. Since only one or two projects were done per day, they suggested increasing the number, which surprised them.
However, Margrave Shield advised against spreading the word too much about Cain's ability. It was decided that the "Cobblestone Transformation" would be limited to three times a day at most. Cain was relieved to hear that Doughton and the others would handle traffic control and transportation arrangements, making it easier for him.
Once the entire schedule was finalized, and it seemed they could perform the Cobblestone Transformation on almost every street as planned, Cain felt relieved. But then Lord Wil mentioned another construction request. He spread a plan on the table labeled "Bridge Replacement Construction."
"A bridge replacement construction?"
Cain read the title and asked the question. Will replied, "Yes."
"The old bridge connecting the Margrave Shield territory and the neighboring Baron Stone territory is becoming a problem. We had planned to replace it with a new one. It's not like it will collapse immediately, but we wanted to get it done before the river's water level rises in the summer."
Will explained the request as he went over the plan.
"Uncle Will, I'm a bit worried since I've never built a bridge before. I'll need to do some experiments first before I can give you an answer."
Cain, surprised by the sudden request and his lack of experience, decided to hold off on giving an answer.
"I see, that was sudden. I'd like you to think it over. Is it okay if I get an answer in about a week?"
Will checked the schedule and communicated the deadline.
"Yes... I think it should be fine. Barvish, I don't think I'll forget, but please remember it."
Cain reminded Barvish, given the amount of information. "Okay," Barvish replied shortly.
"Cain, I'm sorry for the sudden request, but I'd like you to think about it. I should have acted a bit sooner... please, I'm counting on you."
Margrave Shield began to say something but stopped.
