Volume 4 Chapter 8 High Elf's Magic Tool

Volume 4 Chapter 8 High Elf's Magic Tool

Cain collapsed, clinging to Tortoise after hearing he couldn't buy the same kind of magic tool the high elves used.

"No, no. If you get that upset, it'll be a problem. Outside the forest and inside the World Tree Forest, the magic tools are over three generations apart. It's dangerous. Got it, Zain?"

"Yes, Sir Cain. As you just saw, the power gap is so big that it can lead to fights. Also, it takes a lot of Mana, so humans can't use them easily."

"Sir Cain, if you push yourself too hard, Lord Zain will be troubled, you know."

Barvish spoke as Cain stayed quiet, still looking sad.

 "But, you know..."

"Sir Cain, it's okay. Lord Zain said he would take you to places you want to see. So I think he has another plan."

Gardy helped Cain stand up as he squatted on the ground.

"Truly, Sir Cain, your people care for you. If I had someone to scold me or help me... but that's a different story. Like Tortoise said, the newest tools are not possible. But if there are old tools no longer used by high elves, then yes. Right, Tortoise?"

Zain's words made Cain's face light up. His sadness turned into excitement as he looked at Tortoise with shining eyes.

 "You mean that broken one?"

 Tortoise stared at Zain, surprised.

Barvish and the others looked confused. They didn't understand what "broken one" meant.

"There was a tool in the junk pile that didn't work because it had no Mana, right? If it's that one, then it isn't broken. It should work if Mana is added."

Zain winked at Cain as he spoke.

There were tools like a teleportation item that stopped working because it ran out of Mana. Zain was saying that if Cain added Mana, he could use them.

"Well, if you can give them Mana. I'll pick out a few and bring them."

Tortoise walked to the back of the shop.

They heard him moving things around. A few minutes later, Tortoise came back, dusty, holding three magic tools.

"There were more, but I picked the ones in the best shape. It's okay if they don't work?"

The tools were: a dirty, black shoulder bag, a small shield, and a crystal ball about the size of a baseball.

"This bag is a magic bag. It can hold up to one hundred things, about the size of carts. Time doesn't move inside it. The small shield makes a magic barrier. It can block weak magic attacks and arrows without Mana. And the crystal makes water. There are about three more of those. But they've all run out of Mana. They were made about five hundred years ago. I don't know more than that."

Tortoise gave Cain a strange look. Cain was clearly excited even though the tools didn't work.

"So, what are you going to do with tools that don't work, kid?"

"Huh? I'm going to use them. They just don't have Mana. Can I use the glasses for checking?"

Cain meant the Glasses of Analysis. He asked if he could use them.

"Oh, this is nice. Hmph, this shield is Gardy, right? And with this crystal, I don't have to go to the well anymore. Wow, they're all amazing. Mr. Tortoise, how much are these magic tools?"

Cain took off the glasses and looked at the items with joy.

"Well, well. They're junk, so one gold coin each is fine. But for the boys, ten gold coins. Are you sure? For junk like this?"

Cain looked at his wallet, then handed over sixty gold coins with a big smile.

"I'd like to get the rest of the water crystals too. Will this be enough?"
