Volume 5 Chapter 15 Let's Go To Pick You Up VI
Until now, Maria, the priestess, had been quietly watching the discussion. But suddenly, she dropped a bombshell. Mr. Dadana, Ms. Salina, and Mr. Zain all stared at her, mouths wide open. Even Cain's supporters looked at Maria like they just saw a ghost.
"Maria, what are you saying out of nowhere? Sir Cain is a noble from another country. We should try to solve this ourselves first," Dadana said nervously, glancing toward Margrave Shield.
"I understand that," Maria replied, her voice shaky. "But you've probably felt it too. The amount of Mana we have now won't last long—soon, it won't be enough."
Dadana hesitated, looking at Cain's side. "No, but..."
Maria raised her voice. "I believe Goddess Gardea guided this meeting. After all, it was through her that I heard Sir Cain's name!"
Lydia, who had been quiet, finally spoke up. "Hold on. You're just throwing words around. Why should Cain help with your problem? And what do you mean by 'not-so-distant future'? Two or three years?"
Maria answered calmly, "One hundred to one hundred fifty years."
"That's ridiculous. You can't fix this yourselves in a hundred years? Unbelievable," Lydia scoffed.
Cain felt a shock inside. The long-lived beings really think about time so differently from humans. Suddenly, Third High Jurist Gagana slammed his chair to the floor and shouted.
"How dare you, a human, say that! Know your place!"
Cain blinked, confused. 'Wait, what did he say to Lydia?'
Gagana pointed at Lydia and yelled even louder, "We're asking Sir Cain for advice! A human woman should stay silent!"
Something inside Cain snapped. The room blurred red, and a sudden burst of power exploded from him. But Cain didn't care about the power; his anger toward the man insulting Lydia was burning hot.
"You... what did you just say to Mother Lydia?!" Cain shouted, and his power surged again. He didn't even realize it was Mana pouring out, but it didn't matter. His fury grew with every second.
Barvish and Gardy, who had been watching quietly from the side, noticed Cain's sudden change. "Sir Cain!" they shouted, rushing forward, but an invisible barrier stopped them.
Gagana, hit by Cain's fierce Mana, collapsed to the floor, unable to move. His limbs felt weak, and the power pressing down on him grew stronger by the second.
Most of Cain's Mana targeted Gagana, but the energy filled the whole room. Everyone felt a tightness in their chest, like it was hard to breathe.
Gagana sat helplessly on the floor, hidden partly by the table. Cain raised his right hand slowly, like swatting a bug. When his hand touched the table, it shattered with a loud crash.
Stepping closer, Cain's Mana thickened, making Gagana weaker. The judge began to cough violently, his mouth foaming slightly.
Cain grabbed Gagana's neck with a calm but deadly grip and looked him in the eyes. "You, who insulted Mother Lydia, don't deserve to live."
Notes:
• Dadana - The leader of the High Elf settlement and Zain's father.
• Salina - A high elf and Zain's mother, residing in the Forest of the World Tree. She appears around 20 years old in human terms despite being over 1000 years old.
• Maria - The First Priestess of the World Tree Shrine.
• Zain - A man in his 30s with long ears, possibly an elf or a similar race. He works in the basement of Ms. Merida's shop and is highly perceptive, noticing Cain's incredible mana from a distance.
• Margrave Shield - Cain's grandfather. An elderly man, robust, with white hair.
• Lydia - Cain's Stepmother.
• Gagana - A high-ranking magistrate (third-ranked) in the World Tree's shrine. He wears a distinctive pointed hat with three golden stripes and a vivid blue robe.
• Barvish - A slave dwarf with a muscular, compact physique, intended as Cain's retainer/bodyguard, brought via magical contract.
