Volume 6 Chapter 6 The Path Of Wheat 6️⃣

When Cain began constructing the gazebo using Earth magic, he split the group into two teams. Barvish and Gardy handled the structure itself, while Cain, Lala, and Sasha focused on setting up the kitchen.

Barvish and Gardy got to work immediately, unloading the gazebo gate from the cart and fitting it into the space they had cleared in the fence for its installation.

"Alright, let's finish up the kitchen. Lala, could you bring the magic bag from the cart?"

"Yes, understood," Lala replied, giving a quick nod before heading off.

Cain turned to Sasha. "Next, let's add a sink and a workbench beside the stove. Sasha, can you stand here for a moment? I need to check the height."

Sasha moved to the spot beside the stove. Once she was in place, Cain compared the height between the stove and the intended sink, then pressed his hands to the ground.

He activated [Create Clay], shaping the earth into a sink and a broad cooking table.

The newly formed table had plenty of space on both sides of the sink, enough for two people to work side-by-side without crowding. It looked more than capable of supporting cooking for a large group. The sink itself was wide and deep, able to fit three large pots at once with room to spare.

"...This table and sink... they look like they were always meant to be here... Sir Cain, not even elves can shape things this perfectly with magic..."

Sasha murmured in awe, gently running her fingers across the polished surface of the cooking table. The clay finish was smooth, almost like marble.

"W-Well... it's just us here, so it's fine, right? Yeah, totally fine."

Cain gave a nervous smile, almost like reassuring himself. Then he created a sturdy stand behind the sink to mount the water crystal magic tool. When he held his hand over the crystal, water began flowing immediately, making the sink fully functional for both cooking and cleaning.

"Incredible... I've never seen a kitchen like this before..."

The three kitchen staff stood speechless, staring at the freshly built setup with wide eyes.

"Okay, we should start prepping, or lunch won't be ready in time," Cain said, snapping the group out of their daze.

Just then, Lala returned with the magic bag in hand. She stepped forward and took charge with quiet efficiency.

"Let's get started. We're short on time."

"Yes!" the staff replied in unison.

With that, the three of them began pulling out the cooking tools from the magic bag and arranging them around the work area.

 "Wow! So good!"

The voices of delight echoed across the field as the workers—having just returned from their morning labor—took their first spoonfuls of the soup prepared by Cain and the kitchen team.

"I'm glad it suits your taste," Cain said with a gentle smile. "There's enough for seconds, so don't hold back. Just be careful not to overeat—there's still work to do this afternoon."

Laughter broke out among the group as they happily dug into their meals.

Today's lunch was a hearty tomato-based soup made with tender Horn Rabbit meat, served alongside two fist-sized bread rolls. The flavor leaned slightly salty, adjusted to match the physical demands of fieldwork.

"I didn't expect Horn Rabbit bones to make such a rich broth," one of the cooks murmured, stirring the pot thoughtfully.

Cain had instructed them to use the bones left over from butchering the meat—first cleaned, then boiled to draw out the flavor.

"Honestly, I thought cleaned bones were just waste," said another cook, a man watching the soup bubble. "Didn't think you could get anything from them... is this some kind of secret technique?"

"That's true," the others nodded in agreement.

Cain, overhearing their conversation, gave a chuckle. "If it tastes good, that's all that matters, right? Besides, it's not a secret recipe. Once your contracts end, feel free to use it however you like."

The three women looked at him, eyes wide in surprise, then glanced toward Barvish, who gave them a slow, confirming nod.

Fueled by the satisfying meal, the workers tackled the afternoon tasks with renewed energy. They finished their assignments ahead of schedule, their pace noticeably quicker.

Over the next three days, they spread straw ash evenly across the wheat fields, mixing it thoroughly into the soil. With the fieldwork on hold until the mixture settled and blended into the ground, Cain turned his attention to another project.

A Satsuma orchard was created beside the shelter, and one by one, seedlings were carefully planted into the freshly tilled earth.

"Hehe... this year's orchard is three times the usual size. We'll have so many Satsuma... I can't wait to watch them grow."

Cain's voice was light with joy as he gazed out over the newly planted field, his whole body expressing the quiet excitement of creation.
