Volume 1 Chapter 73-2 Genderbend Female Knight, Falling
At the same time, lightly armed bandits in chest plates and leg guards jumped out from behind the rocks.
"Protect His Highness!"
The palace guards shouted as the foot soldiers rushed to stand around Horthes, forming a shield wall.
"Don't worry about the rest—just kill the women!"
"He's in the carriage! He's in there!"
(──So the prince isn't the target?)
Eleonora narrowed her eyes as a well-aimed arrow flew toward her. She pulled her horse to the side just in time to dodge it.
"We'll make you pay for Parisess, witch!"
"If it weren't for you, the Empire—!"
"A surprise visit, huh? Well, that makes it easier to understand!"
Eleonora kicked her feet free of the stirrups and swung one leg over to jump down from Linker.
As she landed, she pulled out her sword, Tottnok.
"Looks like I'm the target! Get His Highness out of here!"
The knights obeyed. They pulled Horthes off his horse, held him to the side, and slowly moved back, using soldiers as cover.
Once Eleonora saw he was safe, she turned her sword toward the attackers rushing at her.
"Die!"
A spear came straight for her, but she knocked it off course—it flew past her cheek.
She pushed off with her left foot, drove forward, and slashed across the attacker's belly in one smooth strike. The blade tore through armor and cut open his gut—everything spilled out.
"Don't be scared! Come and kill me!"
"Mercs, cover us with arrows!"
"You idiots! You'd really go for a girl who can kill you instead of some random guy?"
Eleonora snatched up a fallen bandit's spear and hurled it at the bowman.
With a loud, wet smack, the spear sank deep into his gut, and the archer tumbled over the cliff, screaming as he went.
More bandits screamed and attacked, but one by one, they fell.
A mercenary, now the last one standing, backed away and shouted:
"This is too much! It's not worth it anymore!"
"Get at least the girl!"
One more arrow flew—but the shooter didn't even check if it landed. He turned and ran.
When it ended, only four of the attackers were still alive.
All the old Loriengita fighters had been killed by Eleonora.
But none of that mattered now.
The real problem was what happened with the final arrow.
It didn't hit a soldier. It struck the carriage horse and the driver.
Both were hit. Both died.
The horse panicked. Wild and crazed, it bolted.
"Stop it! Someone! Jump down!"
Eleonora shouted, but no one could help. The carriage went faster, picking up speed as the dead driver slumped forward.
She leapt back onto Linker, dug in her heels, and made him run.
"Why me?! Why is it always me that gets stuck with this?!"
Linker, fast and light, raced ahead. The carriage horse, burdened and panicked, had no chance of keeping the lead.
In no time, Eleonora caught up, leapt onto the back of the carriage, and grabbed the reins that were swinging from the front.
She pulled hard, trying to stop the horse, but the beast—scared and in pain—wouldn't slow down.
Ahead, the edge of a cliff came into view.
"Linker! Get out of the way!"
At her scream, Linker slowed down, then stopped. But the carriage didn't. It kept going.
Eleonora threw open the door and yelled into the cabin.
"I can't stop it! Jump! Jump now, while there's still time!"
"Jump?!"
Silvia and Emilio were curled up in the corner, pale as ghosts.
If they jumped from the moving carriage onto the rocky road below...
"Don't freeze up! You'll die! I'll break your fall, so the pain won't—"
Before she could finish, a strange floating feeling washed over them.
"Damn it!"
The carriage hit something hard, and the door slammed shut.
Eleonora grabbed Silvia and held her tight with one hand and both feet, pushing her down onto the seat across from them.
Silvia's eyes widened when she saw Emilio shaking and frozen in place.
"Come on! Grab on!"
Emilio looked like a boy ready to die. Still, he reached out for Eleonora.
That moment, the carriage smashed into the rock wall—hard.
The impact sent everything inside spinning.
"Ah—!"
Eleonora stayed conscious. Silvia clung to her for dear life.
But Emilio... he wasn't strong. His grip slipped.
The carriage door had been half-flung open from the crash.
Emilio, pushed by the hit, flew out through the window.
"Boy!"
Eleonora shut her eyes.
She wrapped herself tighter around Silvia and braced for the next hit.
The crash shook the whole world.
And then, silence.
Darkness came like a wave—and took them both under.
