Volume 5 Chapter 12 The Country Called Japan

Volume 5 Chapter 12 The Country Called Japan

Upon arriving at Haneda Airport, Oscar stretched his stiff body and looked around vigilantly. It was hard to believe that the hands of those detestable witches had reached this far in the Far East island nation, but old habits die hard.

What he remembered was that foggy night.

Oscar's fate changed when he met Sharla.

The heretics of the Church of England, and the heretics of the magic society who worshiped their Lord. Each and every one of them had fallen under the spell of Sharla's power and beauty, losing themselves. When Oscar himself first saw Sharla, he mistook her for an angel.

Protecting Sharla from those wicked hands while searching for the person she wanted to meet, "Yuusuke," was a daunting task.

Oscar's efforts to fulfill Sharla's wish were not only because his life had been saved. Even if Oscar didn't help, Sharla would have found a way. Someone other than himself would have surely reached out to her.

 But he couldn't tolerate that.

That's why Oscar became an exorcist and took a vacation for the first time, extending his journey to Japan.

There were unimaginable hardships along the way, though.

"What are we going to do now?"

As Oscar deeply felt the air of Japan, he heard a clear voice.

When he looked to his side, he saw Sharla sitting on a suitcase full of luggage, looking at him.

She wore a blouse, cardigan, and long skirt that Oscar had chosen for her. She wrapped a stole around her head and wore oversized sunglasses.

She dressed consciously to minimize exposed skin. He actually wanted to make her look more unattractive, but Oscar couldn't bring himself to defile a work of art.

To be frank, Sharla stood out too much in her natural state. Her platinum blonde hair, which shimmered silver and gold depending on the light, and her perfectly sculpted face. Even though she wasn't famous like a celebrity, her charm was captivating to anyone's eyes, bordering on a miracle or magic.

Even Oscar, who should have gotten used to her by now, still couldn't look at her directly.

While looking down at his feet, he remembered the schedule for later.

"Fortunately, the Japanese Anti-Demon Officials will cooperate with us this time, so our plan is to meet up with them first."

"I see. When can we meet?"

"We're supposed to meet at the airport, so I think they're already here."

 Sharla said discontentedly.

"I'm not interested in those people. When can I meet Yuusuke?"

 "...I don't know that myself."

Oscar frowned as he answered. Sharla had been talking about meeting this "Yuusuke" ever since they met. She said she came from a different world to meet him.

This Yuusuke, who so she wanted to meet. Oscar didn't know much about Japanese names, but it sounded like a man's name.

Even though he was searching for this person, Oscar couldn't help but feel frustrated every time he heard the name.

 "Um..."

If he turned out to be an ordinary man, Oscar would have to intervene and awaken Sharla.

 "Hello?"

While he was thinking about that, someone had come close without him noticing.

 "Ah, I'm sorry. I didn't realize."

"Oh, it's okay. I'm used to it."

The person who said that with a smile was a short androgynous figure. They looked young for a Japanese person, but their age was completely indiscernible. They tied their black hair, which reached their shoulders, into a single bundle, and their slender figure made them look like a woman, but their bone structure was that of a man.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Kushina Mikoto, the Fourth Rank Anti-Demon Official who was requested to guide you in Japan."

"Ah, nice to meet you. I'm Oscar Crane."

"I'll be guiding you for a while starting today. Your Japanese is very good."

"I appreciate being requested. I studied a little Japanese before coming."

 Their voice is also androgynous.

The Anti-Demon Officials are said to have a role similar to exorcists in his home country, but Oscar couldn't imagine them being able to handle the supranatural work with this body.

Oscar noticed the gaze of Kushina and smiled bitterly.

"As you can see, I'm not good at fighting. Instead, I'm good at things like guiding and administrative work, so please leave it to me."

 Oscar quickly shook his head.

"If I made you uncomfortable, I apologize. Our job is not just about fighting, so it's natural."

"It's okay. I myself haven't been able to do my main job as an anti-demon official."

Kushina shifted her gaze from Oscar to Sharla.

 "So, about that...?"

"Oh, she's Sharla Yamamoto, who will be taking care of you."

Oscar introduced her, but Sharla sat in the carry-on case, completely uninterested.

Her statement of disinterest was completely genuine.

"I'm sorry... She's just like that."

"No, it's okay. She's quite unique."

 Indeed.

"You're looking for someone, right? We already have a few leads, so should we put your luggage in the hotel first and then talk?"

 "That would be helpful."

And so, Oscar and the others headed to the hotel that Kushina had arranged. Naturally, Sharla didn't try to carry any luggage, leaving it all to Oscar, and Kushina watched him with an indescribable look.

The three of them got in a taxi and headed towards the hotel.

The cityscape of Tokyo flowing outside the window seemed to have forgotten the ancient mysteries along with the development of science and technology. This country, which confines all kinds of Shura gods, Buddhas, and heroes to fiction, is farthest from the word "faith".

While Oscar felt uncomfortable, Sharla stared at the cityscape intently, even taking off her sunglasses.

"Is there something that caught your attention?"

"...It's the city that Yuusuke used to talk about."

 "I see."

Sharla's eyes looking out the window were shining like never before.

Sharla doesn't speak much. Part of it is because she's not good with words, but she probably doesn't feel the need for conversation.

That's why Oscar doesn't know much about Sharla's past.

He wonders if he will always be just a guide. While thinking that it's too late now, Oscar closed his eyelids, trying to avoid the fact that the time of separation is approaching.
