Volume 5 Chapter 9 Did I Do Something Again

Volume 5 Chapter 9 Did I do something again

I faintly felt the autumn scent in the night breeze. It is still a hot season, but the nights are gradually changing. As the cold increases, the leaves will eventually change color. The lights of the city flowing below also had a sense of loneliness.

Summer is ending. That means the end of the God-Demon War is approaching every moment.

In the darkness, as I jumped from building to building, I was thinking about Kanami's story.

 Strange movements, huh?

If Mevia went out of her way to pass a message to me, something is definitely going to happen.

She is selfish and arrogant, a person with a malicious personality disorder, but she doesn't do meaningless things. Well, she does quite a lot of meaningless things, but she doesn't do strange things in important situations. Probably.

However, even though I run around the city every night like this, there doesn't seem to be anything happening.

If she knows something, she should tell me more specifically.

 "Oh, welcome back, Yuusuke-san."

Lisha welcomed me as I finished my rounds.

"The bath is ready, so please take a bath."

 "Oh, thank you."

Since the incident with Larkan, Lisha has been putting even more effort into housework. She was already trying her best before, but recently she has been working even harder.

But even though she is studying under Kanami, her cooking skills haven't improved... It's one of the mysteries of our house.

Following Lisha's recommendation, I took a bath and when I came out, Kanami and Lisha were looking at something intently in the living room.

 "What are you looking at?"

"Thank you for your hard work, Yuusuke-sama. I will make tea now."

Kanami stood up and hurried to the kitchen. She always apologizes.

Lisha, who was left alone, looked up.

"While I was cleaning up the other day, I found this."

"Is this... the pamphlet for the Souten Festival?"

Lisha had spread out last year's Souten Festival pamphlet on the table. The cover showed an animated male and female dancing, looking very cheerful. Come to think of it, I didn't throw it away.

"This is the festival that everyone has been talking about, right?"

"Yeah, it's called the Cultural Festival. Various circles set up stalls. There are events like a beauty contest and a quiz competition for three days. Last year, there was a live performance by an idol."

"A beauty contest? I know about idols!"

Well, she watched a lot of TV when she was free. So, she is even more knowledgeable about celebrities than I am.

"Oh, a beauty contest is a contest to choose a beautiful woman. If you win, you can get luxurious prizes and various benefits, so a lot of people participate."

In this day and age, beauty contests are criticized in various ways, but are they going to do it again this year? I remember Isahaya-senpai made it to the top four last year, and it was very exciting. By the way, the winner was a model aspiring to become an actress, and the runner-up was someone from the dance club. All in all, those who know how to captivate the audience tend to do well.

Apart from the winner, there are also prizes to be won, and it's one of the main events of the Soten Festival.

"Oh, there are such festivals, huh? If beautiful women like Kanami-san and Yukari-san participate, winning is almost guaranteed."

 "Yes, that's right."

"When you say things like that, it sounds sarcastic to me."

Kanami, who had brewed tea, placed glasses in front of us. She had apparently gone to the trouble of making iced tea.

"This is caffeine-free herbal tea. Would you have preferred it hot?"

"I was actually in the mood for iced tea."

The refreshing coolness felt pleasant against our heated bodies.

"You're not being sarcastic, are you?"

Lisha exclaimed as if taken aback by the unexpected comment. Stop being a nuisance to the neighbors.

 Kanami quietly took her seat.

"I know you don’t mean it that way. I’m simply saying that if you say things like that, it just comes off as sarcastic."

 "Huh, why?"

Lisha was surprised, but I agreed with Kanami's words.

With that expression on her face, it's no wonder that her words are called sarcastic. If Lisha were to participate in a beauty contest, she would undoubtedly win. Kanami is beautiful too, but Lisha would have the advantage. Just by smiling and waving, she could easily monopolize ninety percent of the votes. It's excessively unfair.

Not only her face, but being a Saint gives off an aura that is slightly different from ordinary people. Kanami, as a member of the royal family, is clearly different from the average person, but Lisha is exceptional.

 That's what attracts people.

Perhaps the only ones who can compete with Lisha based on appearance alone are Mevia in full Saint mode or someone like Sharla.

While Lisha was pondering, Kanami loosened her mouth while flipping through the pages of the pamphlet.

"Forget about the beauty contest, student festivals are interesting. It reminds me of my homeland."

"Did Fador Empire also have something like a cultural festival?"

"Yes. It was more about presenting magic tools than setting up stalls. It's a culmination of a year's worth of work. Many workshop masters and nobles come to see it. Every year, there are new ideas and it gets very exciting."

"Oh, I would have liked to see that."

"If you have the chance, please do. I will guide you then."

 Kanami nodded with sparkling eyes.

When I was there, it was during the God-Demon War, so I couldn't participate in such festivals. There were victory celebrations and parades, but I didn't like them because they made my shoulders stiff.

I'm basically just standing there. I'm a shining statue, the Hero.

"Well then, I'll be your guide this time. I have to be a salesperson for the Literature Club, but other than that, I'll guide you."

 "Are you sure?"

That question probably has two meanings: "Are you busy?" and "Aren't we in the middle of the God-Demon War?"

I understand Kanami's feelings, but it's better to take breaks in moderation. No matter how strong a bow is, if it's constantly stretched, the string will eventually break.

Especially since Lisha has just been captured, and recently, I often see Kanami with a troubled expression.

It's natural to be troubled after losing a battle. A defeated warrior has no value. There is a big difference between a soldier who has tactical defeat and one who doesn't.

Even if they pretend to be calm like this, they must be crushed by regret and anxiety on the inside.

It's not something I can do anything about. They have to overcome it themselves over time.

So, even if it's forceful, I'll take them to the festival.

If their mindset is focused forward, they'll figure something out. Kanami is strong.

While thinking about such things, my phone vibrated.

It seems like someone contacted me on this late night. Who could it be?

Thinking that, I picked up my phone and saw the name "Kagami-san" on the screen.

Oh, did I do something again?
